system preferences > startup disk, from there you can choose what OS you boot into

system preferences > startup disk, from there you can choose what OS you boot intoI was going to suggest the same thing but it sounds like they want the boot loader to appear every time and not set a new default operating system.

Kind of like sticky Option key if you will. I agree that would be nice, if there is a solution like that.

Bootpicker (http://www.bombich.com/software/bootpicker.html) sounds like it would do what you want, but with more fanfare than you desire.

Edit: Neil321 beat me to it.

Try not holding down the alt key it should boot up to what you set it as otherwise it'll boot up into OS X by default

rEFIt. It works like a charm and installation (http://refit.sourceforge.net/doc/c1s1_install.html) is child's play.

rEFIt does exactly this, here's an example of what it looks like:

Follow the instructions that macffooky gave. . it's not that hard, really. :)

My kids use XP for gaming and my iMac triple boots like the example above. They were terribly excited when I left a USB key plugged in and a fourth option appeared on reboot :) As far as they're concerned, Ubuntu is only known as "The Penguin".

could it be the problem that i'm still using bootcamp with refit ?
do i have to remove bootcamp then use refit ?

No, absolutely not. I'd remove Bootpicker from your system (if you haven't already). You really shouldn't have any problems with rEFIt as long as you do exactly as instructed.

Do you have any idea guys refit how many os can handle ?

I'd imagine the limit would be determined by something else. rEFIt itself is merely a puppet. I've certainly had the three systems on my HD and a bootable DVD before.

I have OSX, XP, and Vista. Does rEFIT give you several icon options for Windows to distinguish between XP and Vista?
Thanks
Alan

I'm not sure, Alan, however there is a guide on changing icons here:
