Is it possible to use an application that requires the NTFS format with Parallels or VMware?

Yep. If you've already installed Windows then you can convert to NTFS through the command prompt:

convert c: /fs:ntfs

I do the same exact thing.

I have a 40 gig boot camp partition with XP SP2 that I also use with Fusion.
