I have a macbook pro and a mac mini.
Trying to make everything look nice, I have changed the icons for a lot of my folders (get info, then copy picture over icon). In one instance and external drive containing tv shows has a picture of a TV.
Problem. Plug drive into macbook, and can select drive by clicking icon or the name. Plug the same drive into mac mini and if I click the icon nothing happens, if I click the drives name, then I can access it.
Have replaced the icon with jpeg from internet.
This also happens when I change movie file icon to picture of DVD cover. This happens on some files not all.
Basically, what format do folder/file icons have to be in and is there a simple app that will do this for me.

Thanks for any help

I have the same problem.

I know there a thousand icon generator programs, I would like to know which formats at what resolution work.

They should be in icns format, and img2icns is an app that will convert it.
