does imovie work with usb cable...

Hi
i got my first mac ibook g4...simply gr8..., just a few weeks back..
i was goin thru the tutorial of imovie. it said that the camcorder should be connected with a firewire cable...would it work with a usb cable...??
second question...its not able to import .avi and .mpeg clips as it says quicktime cant deal with them....so is there a way to do that?? except prehaps buying quicktimepro....

You must use FireWire. USB doesn't transfer the data fast enough. As for .avi and .mpg files, buying Quicktime Pro won't help, except that to convert those files.

edit: now that I think about it, I think I have put .mpg files into iMovie.

i used QT Pro to go .avi -> .dv and imported into iMovie.
