Every time I insert a blank CD or DVD on my iMac, it lets me say "open finder," but then it says the disk cannot be used as it is not recognized.

However, things like Toast and iTunes still let me burn to it, even though no disk shows up in OS X finder or desktop.

Once there is content on the disk, they show up fine.

Any ideas?

What is it you are trying to do with a blank disk in finder?

Better yet what kind of CD's are you trying to use?

It doesn't matter if it is a DVD+RW DVD+R, CD+R, etc. It does it for any kind of blank disk.

As for what I'm trying to do, I'm just trying to see the blank disk in finder, or on the desktop. However, when I put it in the computer, it says disk not recognized.

However, again, I can burn disks in toast or iTunes fine even though OS X would have you believe no blank disk is inserted.

My guess would be that it is not an apple standard/recognized drive.
I have one in my wife's Imac G4 & it says the same thing unless we use Toast.
What's the problem using toast?
