View Full Version : Why ShapeShifter?

No offence to whoever developed it, but I don't see the point of ShapeShifter. I've had a look at several themes and none of them are better, some are awful and whoever made the XP one needs to be strung up for such sacrilege.

I tried heaps and heaps of skins on Windows and didn't find that many that looked much better. Ironically, the last one I had that I really liked and that got the most oohs and aahs was an OSX brushed metal copy! :)

indeed. i prefer WindowBlinds myself.

this is what i've done to the PC to make it look like OSX, with the use of WindowBlinds, and Object Dock, and finding some ofthe right dock icons...

I gotta say those last couple of months of being a Windows user but with the brushed metal replacement (which was actually a system hack) was a bit more bearable because of. It's interesting how a visually appealing OS or software makes a difference. (Like I can't bring myself to use OpenOffice simply coz it is just so god forsaken ugly. Please - if anyone knows how to skin it, let me know)

i absolutely agree with you.

sometimes i'll use PC for certain audio apps that simply run better on PC's, and fortunately these applications have the exact same interfaces on both platforms.
so i figured, why not. The look of Windows XP is gawdy in my eyes, so i'd usually put it into Win2000 classic mode, but then that looks kinda sterile. So why not make it look like OSX.

There's another App, WindowFX that can mimmick the Menu bar, but i can't afford to pay for it right now... its a 30 day demo, it definitely helps to complete the OSX look.

also i'm trying to get Explorer to act like Finder more, its a bit too redundant for me compared to Finder but i think with enough research i'll get there.

some of us simply HAVE to use windows machines, so its a good thing we can customize. sure it eats up a little memory, but at least it doesn't eat at my sense of style =D
