I see that Unsanity <http://www.unsanity.com/haxies/shapeshifter/> just released "ShapeShifter" for OSX. I think is really cool and would like to use BUT I'm alittle weary. Has anybody used it and/or do you know of any problems it has on the OS itself? Thanks.

I try heaps of different skins back in my PC days, and the one's that I liked best were aqua or brushed metal.
I've also looked at a few of the SS themes and haven't seen any I like more than Aqua or brushed metal.
So, personally, I can't see the point of ShapeShifter. :)
But if you find any other reason for it, let me know.

I am anxious to try out ShapeShifter, but I want to hear feedback, like yourself. I used to run ThemeChanger under Jaguar, and didn't have any problems, so I would hope it would be the same for Panther. Themes are cool, it's nice to change the look of the OS around everynow and then.

I've been using Shapeshifter for a coupla weeks now- no problems whatsoever. I love the custom look of my duallie!!!
Apparently it's designed not to mess with your system in a way that would cause problems. Don't know much more than that tho.
Highly recommend.

ive been messing around and i found something odd
i clicked on preview in the pref pane and it seems that every theme has the same preview. i mean, all the buttons and tiles are the stuff from aqua - so whatever theme im downloading and applying, seems to be just switching to the default pack. i dont understand why since i download my themes from resexcellence.
has any1 had this problem?

I experienced a lot of Graphical Bugs after changing my theme... even after restoring plain old Aqua my GUI was toasted... not recommended

I don't see how it replaces your aqua GUI, shapeshifter doesn't touch the original files. It merely tells they the finder to look for them files in other places, which is why its so safe to use. I am a big fan of Shapeshifter, I see it has mass potential and going to support it all the way.
I'm a big fan of themes, ala funmac.com for instance :)

i dont mean it replaces the aqua files.
here let me see if i can elaborate.
When you open system prefs and check out the shapeshifter pref pane, you have the option of viewing a preview of the theme you are about to apply. all the themes i preview display only the default aqua theme. basically when i click on say the GUIPOD theme that comes with shapeshifter and i apply or preview it - nothing happens. it says it applied the theme, but all i see is the default aqua. it remains aqua even after i restart the computer and log out.
i agree on the fact that it has mass potentional - but man i cant seem to get it to work for me

at least the haxies applied to the MacOSX are not as destructive as those in OS9, and for that, we can all be thankful
