Why the hell wouldn't they let Yahoo work? It's grown to be a bigger ISP (SBC Yahoo DSL), and now they're leaving a chunk of users out in the cold?
grr...

Yahoo DSL would be different i belive. He is talking about FREE accounts. Not the pop accounts you get from some ISPs

I use the Hotmail plugin he's speaking of and it works great with mail in Panther, no problems whatsoever.

Yahoo! used to have POP3 access with their free accounts, (It was nice while it lasted!). They have gone to a model where you get the web-based e-mail for free, and you can pay to get POP3 access (via Mail or whichever app you wish to use.)

if you downloaded the hotmail patch-thing it should be already in the settings, assuming you did exactly what the read me told you to do. it took me all of a couple minutes to set mine up and it work beautifully :)

so just try re-reading the instructions

The upgrade for yahoo to POP email is $19.99 per year:

POP Access and Forwarding

• Use Outlook™, Eudora™, or another POP3 client to access and manage your Yahoo! Mail.

• Automatically forward your Yahoo! Mail to another email account - even another Yahoo! address.

• Send larger messages, up to 5MB

• Only $19.99/year*.

Although I'm a Mac newbie... and haven't setup a Yahoo Pop account in Mail, I feel sure it would work.

Sure, the Yahoo! pay service would work in Mail with no problem, but the original poster was looking for a "free" solution. :)

Ahhh...

Here is a free POP service that I've been using, and I've found to be OK:

http://www.softhome.net/

They have both a pay account ($30 per year) and a free account. The free account offers:

POP
SMTP
WEB Mail
6MB of Storage
150 Messages (storage)
10 Recipients per message
POP Frequency 1x/10 minutes

Just an offering, I'm not endorsing them or anything.
