I'm confused. To me a push service would allow you to receive e-mails as they were sent.

If my iphone is in sleep mode i.e. timed out after 3 minutes or if I switch the button on the top of the phone I still expect to receive a buzz to let me know whether there is a new message.

Surely I'm not expecting too much.

Or maybe MobileMe is not working or maybe I'm not set up properly but I'm pretty sure everything is set to push.

Yes. It will make an audible alert, even if the display is off (i.e. in sleep mode).

So any further ideas? Any settings that I am missing? What is the alert? can it be picked?
