Just wait, it is going to rock!!! I have it on my iBook, and it absolutely flies. Everyone can quit B**Ching about QE. It will be nice, but not required. The OS feels so different. Faster than 9!

I have no idea what QE is, and I would not even do any bytchin' anyways. I am already sure that if the beta/pre-beta you have runs faster than OS 9, then the final product of Jaguar would run just as fast, if not, faster. I will be putting this product on my wish list of things to get before the end of the year (maybe my parents will get it for me for Dec. 25).

QE is Quartz Extreme. It speeds up the interface by putting some of the graphics stuff to the video card. It says 32 megs necessary, but it is working on my iBook.

Yeah! Jaguar flies on my ibook 500! If you turn off animated application openings you will notice that it is faster then OS 9, The only things that are sluggish (slower then OS 9) is live resizing, scrolling and menus. Only if apple were to make these things fast on a G3 I don't think we would here "OS X IS SLOW!!" anymore and I would be very, very HAPPY!

Backtothemac- Congrats. on getting jaguar and telling us how it is on a 600mhz iBook!

I got lucky on getting it. I am just blown away by how much faster it is than x.1.4. Hopefully this will be ready for NY, but maybe not until Sept. Found a few bugs already. I agree, the only thing slower than 9 is the scrolling in IE. The finder flies now. :p

Which build do you have? Is it the WWDC build?

For OS 9.x like menu drawing try ShadowKiller from www.unsanity.com. This switches off all drop shadows in menus and windows. Not only does this make menus draw remarkably faster but it makes resizing quite a bit noticeably faster. Only problem is there are no borders on windows or menus. This does not seem to have any noticeable effect on G4 class chips (because Altivec enables drop shadows to be drawn extremely quickly). All G3 users should send a request to www.apple.com/macosx/feedback for an option to switch off dropshadows.

I have the WWDC build.

I installed it on my iMac 333MHz with 288MB of RAM. It seems to run really quick compared to 10.1.x

On this machine, I dont think it is as fast as OS 9. But on a G4, I bet it is!

I use a program called Ircle. I can't tell you while being on the boards of what server, and the channel, and stuff like that.

Yes, it is the developer build. It is amazing. You don't even have to use shadow killer. Everything runs incredible. Went to CompUSA today, and it is as fast as the G4 800 that they are running there :p

Can't wait for the final build!!!

I realize this is off topic but I just have to say it...

I love your avatar Backtothemac! I had noticed the imac before, but since you started the thread I was able to catch the whole animation (normally it's done by the time I get down to your post). I've seen a couple avatars designed by Dukestreet-- he does a nice job on them all.

Yes, he is the man!!! There is no doubt that he knows what he is doing. I am just thankful that master Dukestreet graced my presence with that avatar:p

I had an early alpha of Jaguar but I lost it (I had it on a CD) because I lost the CD :( I am waiting for a friend to come back to the States to give me a copy of X.2 WWDC version, although this may take a while :)

Can you switch off the folder scaling out into a window when you double click on a folder in jaguar? I would probably find this feature very annoying.

No, you cannot, however I am sure that someone will make a hackie for it. Now, I can tell you this though, you will love it. It is so fast, that you just do it for the fun of it :p

Hang on everyone the rest of 2002 is going to be interesting.

Back to mac, I got a question for you...are you using a 600 Combo with the ATI Rage 128 8MB iBook? That is the one I bought in December and if so it is nice to hear that even machines that use the older Rage card are going to see some nice boost on system and Finder speed!!!

I think the new iBook 700 with the 16MB card should be almost as quick as some of the older powerbooks if not quicker if what you are saying is true! Can't wait till they release it. Sounds like it might even be quicker on my iMac DV 400. Thanks for the info.....
