I'll be retiring an old Dell laptop and upgrading to a Macbook.
There are a couple of Windows programs that I'll need to run under Windows XP.
My Dell came with Windows XP Service Pack 1 (rather than the newer SP2 or SP3).
Is there any way to install this version of Windows XP on the Mac?

Bootcamp needs at least SP2.
You will also likely have authorization problems anyway using a copy of Windows that has already been installed on your Dell.

I answered this in these two threads. There was a more recent one that I couldn't seem to find. By the way your Dell OEM copy of Windows is tied to your old Dell and you shouldn't be installing it on another computer.

If I understand you right, there are programs that will "combine" a Windows XP SP1 CD with an SP2 update (I actually have SP2 on a CD), into a single CD that Bootcamp will recognize as a Windows XP SP2 CD?

Yes, you can 'slipstream' a SP2 upgrade with a standard XP disc to get an XP SP2 disc. Google nlite.

How do I know nlite isn't doesn't have some kind of sneaky trojan horse that will enable someone to take over my machine whenever they felt like it?
