Hi,

For putting music and sounds into a game.

Which options do we have and what supposes each option?

I know about ad-hoc music, freeware, creative commons, ... but i don't know finally the legal aspects regarding each one.

Anyone can elaborate a list with options and what exactly this option can mean to a developer?

Thanks.

creative commons you can read all about at their website, there are 3 levels of a creative commons license. Completely free to use, free with some rights reserved, and all rights reserved I believe. They're pretty self descriptive...
For each individual case it would probably be best to contact the artist, just to be safe and to be courteous.

Flickr is a good example of the types of Creative Commons you get:
Creative Commons licenses:
http://www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

In general you combine these three elements how you want:
- attribution : you need to credit the source
- no derivatives : you cannot change the image in any way
- non commercial: you cannot use it if you want to charge money for your application

If you don't mind paying a one-time licensing fee, you can get royalty free music from the following websites:

http://www.q-music.co.uk/

http://www.beatsuite.com/

I've used them both and been quite happy with the results.

I have http://www.freesound.org/ bookmarked. Here's their creative commons license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/2.0/
They have sounds, not songs and it's all free.

I've had good luck with http://www.productiontrax.com/ and www.royaltyfreemusic.com. They both have a lot of tracks to choose from and have stock sound effects, not just royalty free music.
