Am I the only one who thinks this game is going to reek worse than COD2 and 3? WWII is played out. I really wish they would have done another modern warfare one.
Take a look at this gameplay footage: http://gamevideos.1up.com/video/id/21012
It just kinda blows. Am I the only one who will still be playing COD4 until COD6 comes out? (When the activation gets the COD franchise back)

Yeah, I wish it was modern warfare again too since I enjoy that kind of stuff.
Keifer Sutherland is in it though and I would like to fight along side what'll sound like Jack Bauer :p, so I'll probably give it a rent.

Aug 23, 2008, 03:46 AM
That's what I think I'll do. Rent it and see if it's worth 60 bucks. I doubt it will be though. $7 to find out it's a disappointment is always better than $60 and feel duped.

Yeah the gameplay looks alright. In all honesty, it looks like it would have been a suitable successor to Call of Duty 2. But since its actual successor was a (shudder) POS, and Call of Duty 4 was plain godly, I don't think this one will live up to the standard set by COD 4 nor will it review very well.

The devs look like their going for a gritty(maybe bloody?)COD this time seeing as they might not pass the COD4 formula.
I'm not interested in it this time....I'm kinda tired of WWII shooters.

I'm really looking forward to CoD5. I've seen the trailers and it looks pretty darn good to me. I have played all of the CoD games multiple times and have enjoyed each and every one of them.

From listening to podcasts etc. it sounds like it plays and looks just like CoD4 plus it has campaign Co-op.
Treyarch starting developing before CoD4 came out so they didn't know modern day would be such a hit. I feel bad for them because they only had 9 months to develop CoD3 so why would it be that great? And now they have this crappy reputation. At least this time they had over 2 years to develop it with the CoD4 engine plus additional help from Inifinity Ward.
And Activision still has CoD. Infinity Ward (original makers) have just stated that they will be doing all new CoD games internally (and notice how this version ISN'T called CoD5, simply World at War)

1. Treyarch doesn't hold a candle to Infinity Ward. (But it's using the same engine so we'll see)
2. Call of Duty 2 was awesome.

sikkinixx hit the points I was going to ramble on. I heard them on 1up.. :)
Guys, watch this DORKY video (http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3169369&p=1&sec=PREVIEWS).
If this game sucks, then Treyarch isn't a good developer, because they have a great engine to start with and more time this go.
I'm really looking forward to this game. I'm one of the minorities that does not like modern warfare shooters, but I did enjoy the COD4 demo.
There's a boat-airplane gunner mission in this game. :)

See the graphics and engine looks great, but I still have problems with the WWII theme. I've been there, killed all the Nazi and Japanese I've ever wanted to. Too many times too.
I liked a really good warfare game that wasn't too tactical or had the name Tom Clancy attached to it.
I think a lot of people feel that way. I would have at least liked to see something Vietnam or fictional if current day wasn't going to happen.

Give it a chance.
I like the sound of the Pacific Theater.
And as for Call of Duty 2...that was probably one of the greatest WW2 shooters I've ever played...I don't see how that was a fluke at all.

Well I am actually getting a little sick of modern shooters, and could use a good WW2 shooter. I'm getting tired of shooting middle eastern terrorists from an unidentified country.

I never grew tired of WW2 shooters, but I never really liked modern shooters. The only exception is Counter Strike.
I'm getting this game for the Wii and trying the demo on my PC. It's one of the few Wii games that doesn't include PS2 and PSP in its development pipeline.

JackAxe
Sep 24, 2008, 12:00 AM
Then they'll produce a new engine and Treyarch will produce COD7 with that engine. Then the cycle will repeat.
Even if this game does quite well, I'm sure we'll never here the end of Tryarch and COD3. But to be fair, they only had a "year" to make that game. They deserve quite a bit of slack.
They've been working on COD5 game for 2 years now and started off with the COD4 engine, so there's little chance they'll mess this up, especially with every internet monkey swooning over Infinity Ward.

I am really sick of CoD games...honestly they are the same everytime..run and gun style.
I like having to use my head when I play war games, and thats why I play Brothers in Arms. If you havent played, I recommend playing Hells Highway which just came out. The story was really deep and emotional.
World War II was never played out, CoD played it out to the point when you never want to play. I think CoD5 will be fun, but I am still iffy about it.

I was really looking forward to this game on the Wii, but I can see now that Treyarch is skimping on the Wii version.

The PC beta version is fantastic. Very fast paced. The graphics are smooth and the gameplay seems to be pretty similar to CoD 4 but different enough to be interesting.
My only complaint is that bolt action rifles seem underpowered.

So what guns do you think are the WaW equivalent to the MP5,M4,M40A3,RPD and the rest of them "everyone else is using this gun and getting loads of kills so if I use surely I'll be the best" type of weapons
If you know what i mean
Piarco
Nov 5, 2008, 10:28 AM
Well the Thompson is definitely the MP5 - downloaded and played the 360 beta last night for two rounds, and got 32 kills in my first and then 52 in the second. gameplay is very similar to COD4, even the upgrades and unlocking of other weapons is the same.
Gameplay doesn't feel quite as good though, and the graphics are definitely a little rubbish - seemingly quite fuzzy and lacking in detail. I'll put that down to being a beta at the moment.
But... it definitely doesn't suck as much as COD3 so far!

To me it feels like a very well polished Call of Duty 2. It's as if they took Infinity's engine and layout and applied it to the classic CoD era. I am pleasantly surprised how much fun I had with it this morning as I was expecting it you just be CoD4 in a WWII setting. Besides the obviousness of the XP-system and gameplay load outs, the game really feels refreshing.

Downloading the 360 beta as well to compare the two. I've always played the CoD games on a console in the past so it will be interesting to see if I still prefer the 360 version or not. Especially now that I have seen the PC graphics.
Edit : Just downloaded the 360 version and played a few games. I think it is better than the PC version, maybe I'm just more used to the controller but I certainly enjoy it more.

Played the beta on the Xbox 360 the other day. I was pleasantly surprised. It was a bit rough around the edges, but thats the beta for ya. From what I've played, it's pretty much Cod 4 WW2 style. Thats not a bad thing though if you ask me. If it ain't broken, don't fix it, right? Very impressed with COD5 on the PS3. Graphics look great at 1080p and the AA issues reviews have mentioned don't appear to be anything major at all.

For anyone that is considering buying this game it is basically COD4 with bigger maps and different guns.
I been playing it online now for 6/7 hours(I think), on level 30
The game is more or less exactly the same as COD4, the gameplay is exactly the same and the popular guns in COD4 are basically in WaW they just got different names
M40A3 - Springfield
MP5 - Type 100
RPD - BAR
etc etc
The Taubin Gas(sp?) is a good replacement of Stun/Flash grenades and is alot more effective, frag grenades seem to be a little weaker then they were before though and those sticky grenades suck unless you use them to blow up a tank
I don't really like the tanks either, I'm sure some people just stay in the tank all game just blowing people up:rolleyes:. I don;t really like the Artillery strike either, I don't think they're accurate enough and it's very rare that a whole team would get killed by one....and they last wayyyy to long. The dogs are good though and are a good replacement of the helicopters, they run around in packs of 2/3/4, they're pretty easy to kill but if they bite you twice your dead lol
Some of the guns are very rubbish though and I have yet to find/unlock a gun in the "rifles" section that isn't a semi-automatic....way to many G3 kinda guns. The machine guns and sub machine guns are very good though and everyone pretty much sticks to them. Snipers are alright, I've only used the Springfield to snipe because with the rest of the snipers you have to complete the first marksman challenge(25 kills) to unlock the "sniper scope" or what ever you would call it.
Perks are OK'ish, I've just been using the same perks that I used on COD4...There is a new perk call "Toss back" though which resets the fuse of thrown back grenades, usefull for some. You can also have a vehicale perk aswell for tanks. i never go in tanks so I don;t really care for the vehicle perk.
There are some new game modes, Capture the Flag, War and some others that I can't remember, thers also Hardcore Free for All and some other hardcore modes that I can't remember either. I only been playing domination, team deathmatch and SnD I haven't had time to test out the other modes still adjusting to the game.
The Co-Op mode is pretty good as soon as I loaded up the game I had invites to join a Co-Op game...I dunno if its exactly the same as the story mode cause I haven't played that (I didn't play the COD4 single player mode either) so I can't really comment on that, but I'm guessing once everyone is used to the guns and what not Co-Op mode will be to easy to complete (if you can complete it )
Overall though WaW is a very, very good game and WW2 or not I still think it is better then COD4. Only thing's that i sincerly hate about this game is that:
1. Theres no camo's which makes the headshot challenges pretty pointless
2. Tanks, you gotta play the game to understand how annoying those damn things are
3. I'm a "noob" on level 30 of the first prestige and my golden cross and golden guns no longer have people debating in the lobby wheter or not I'm a hacker:eek::cool: lol
Oh yh one last thing, for each prestige (well 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th & 10th) you do you unlock a new custom class so if your on your 10th prestige you would have 10 custom classes :p
But yh if anyone doesn't have this game I suggest you get it ASAP!!!!
If COD4 was, lets say, a 9 out of 10 I'd give this game a solid 9.5 out fo 10...to sum up the game its basically COD4 with improvements and WW2 style guns and maps
PSN - J-Step for anyone that wants to add me, if you do add me say that your from MR so I know...thanks :o

I bought it last weekend, and I'm very impressed. Sure, its WW2, but the way treyarch presents the story changes everything. It has a much more gritty and dark feel to it than previous CoD games, and I like it. World at War is a whole new WW2 experience, and it's rather refreshing. Not to mention the multiplayer is pretty addicting :D After playing GoW 2 (Gears...lol), I'm very glad I picked Cod 5 over it. Gow 2 was simply to much like the old game. Seemed like more of an expansion pack than anything. Call of Duty did not dissapoint...get this game!

Nazi zombies rock! If CoD4 had this built-in I would never leave the house! The zombie mod is buggy on my :apple:. :(
Computer graphics and control are waaaay better than sticks and TVs (I can pick off snipers with just a red-dot sight on an M-16, so I will be "putting my quarter up" at someone else's console until it does.
