Virtual Programming has released FlatOut2 for Mac.http://www.insidemacgames.com There's a article or two at inside macgames. The 1st and 2nd are both a lot of fun and would rate at the top of my list for driving fun and rockem sockem racing.

Not a single comment? anyways you can download the demo over at Apple games section. I would say the coolest racing game available for the Mac. Awesome and I was running it at max resolution with a measly 1 gig of ram on a iMac 2.4.

I had no idea this was coming for Mac. I'll definitely check the demo.

Just bought the game via a digital download that is NOT based on stupid DRM crap...excellent game, really fun as a thrash racing distraction...I recommend! :)

Im about to pull the plug, in the full version does it allow you to change the music or run itunes?

Awesome game. I'm still running PPC Macs so their wouldn't be any point for me, but I did buy the game for PS2 last week. Also FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage was released a few months ago for PC and 360, but its nothing more than 2 with upgraded graphics.
I understand what you mean about the music. I played the game for the first time by renting it a few years ago. By the time I took the game back I was already tired of the soundtrack. The best option is to probably turn the music off in the game and keep iTunes running in the background. That's what I do when playing it on my PS2.

Still wondering why not much talk on this one when Mac racing is so weak. They offer a great Demo that can be played over and over and everyone that I have shown this one to has thought it was really a lot of fun. I wonder if there would be enough interest to start a Mac Flat out 2 racing group or something?
If you haven't downloaded the free demo I urge all racing fans to give this one a try. I wouldn't steer you wrong.

Thanks to Bugbear in getting this one to Mac.:)

Does anyone know if there is manual gearing option in full version? Demo has only automatic which makes it a bit boring. Otherwise the game is really cool! :)

Hmm, I played this game like 2 years ago in Windows and on a PS2, so it's quite disappointing that it's JUST released on the Mac, especially when FlatOut : Ultimate Carnage is already available.
Maybe this is why there isn't much talk... the game is still awesome though, I suggest it to seriously everybody ;)
I really wish Apple took games more seriously.

This is a simple revisiting of an old game that wasn't bad but also wasn't all that great.
On the up side however it preforms magnificently on my MacBookPro15" multi touch.

Carmageddon? That was great, or nearly so. Certainly worth revisiting.

How da Hell did I miss this one..?!?!
Have assumed too much that fun racing games for the Mac were history...
Tnx, Dont Hurt Me!
Gonna have some fun with this!!
BTW.. Carmageddon 2 was fun playing in multiplayer mode. Have had some extreme laughs, frustrations, curses but above all accelerated heart beating fun with my colleagues with this game a couple of years ago!
EDIT: a couple of Carmageddon 2 screenshots I made back then... sweet memories... :D

The Box Mac Version of FlatOut2 will be released in about 2 weeks if you dont like digital downloads like myself. I got that from a good source at Virtual Programming.
Your welcome MacsRgr8, This could be the best Mac racing game ever released. A real hoot to say the least.

Cool!
You can tell your source they have a definite buyer (and advocate, LOL) in Holland :)
Have played the demo, and while I was playing I had a huge grin on my face from ear to ear. This is the type of totally-fun-gaming I adore!

It's actually the first racing game I've played on the Mac that has the quality of a native game on a decent PC. The frame rate, graphics and textures are excellent. I do like Need For Speed Carbon, but this port puts it to shame from a technical standpoint.
I am running an iMac 3Ghz 4Gb ram and GeForce 8800 GS 512MB, so it should be good <cough...EA> anyway, but I can run it at 1920x1200 and it plays great. Optimum is probably 1600x100 with 8xAA (yes 8!).
Fantastic, more of this quality please!

Just hold down the option key as you double-click the game icon. Should give you the graphics screen.

So I downloaded the demo of FlatOut 2 ... LOVE IT! I've been looking for a car combat game like this. Here's my question: does the full version allow you to use something other than the keyboard as a controller? If so, what options are there & what do you recommend? Joystick or GamePad? brand/model?
Thanks. I'm new to gaming since I've always had an iBook or MacBook before. Just got a MacBook Pro & I'm suddenly trying out WoW, CoH, & now this.

I use the wired Xbox 360 controller with the tattiebogle drivers. It's fantastic except for the lack of force-feedback. The driver supports it and the game supports it but for some reason it doesn't work. Great demo, I'll probably get the full version.

Anyone know how to get Vsync to work in this game? I have the demo but there is screen tearing.

Resurrecting an old thread, but Amazon is having a 15% off sale, which includes some Mac games where FlatOut 2 is one of them, and that made me download the demo.
However, I was very surprised that the demo asked me to select the sound source from Direct Sound or Windows Multimedia Waveout...
This made me open up the game package where I found the following files:
English.lproj, SecurityCocoaDialog.nib, advapi32.dylib, app.icns,
avifil32.dylib, comctl32.dylib, comdlg32.dylib, common.dylib, d3d8.dylib,
d3d9.dylib, d3dx9.dylib, ddraw.dylib, dinput.dylib, dinput8.dylib,
dsound.dylib, gdi32.dylib, glu32.dylib, iphlpapi.dylib, kernel32.dylib,
msacm32.dylib, msvcrt.dylib, msvfw32.dylib, ole32.dylib, oleaut32.dylib,
opengl32.dylib, shell32.dylib, user32.dylib, version.dylib, winmm.dylib,
ws2_32.dylib, wsock32.dylib
That very much looks like Windows emulation to me... if that is an actual port, it is the strangest one I've seen so far. Is this Wine or Cydia? At a glance, I found no mention of this on Virtual Programming's website... and they're making the Supreme Commander 2 port now... which has me worried.

After some research it looks like both Cider and WINE use these files and extensions.

So, did I miss where they disclose that they used Wine or Cider?
There is no mention of it on the loading screens of the game...
Now I need to ask in the SC2 thread if anyone bought it and open the package for that game...

I remember playing FlatOut:Head On for PSP (that's a great game), if that's the same racing game series that's mentioned here....
