Trouble Installing Linux File System

Whenever I try to install a linux file system using my mac, it always gives me this error message and tells me that it has failed to write the ext 3 file system. Why is this happening?

I have been using an Ubuntu Live CD.

I think you'll have to be a bit more detailed.

Well I tell it to partition the entire disk. It then starts to write the file system and sends me an error message telling me that writing the file system failed. I dont know how to be more detailed.
