Beginner question

I am a beginner to recording and pretty fired up about using garageband. The keyboard is coming but my question is what sort of adapter do I need to run guitars and mics into the computer? I've got at 12" pbook so no room for expansion. Are there any cheap usb audio in devices? Thanks for any and all help!

I went with the Edirol UA-20 (http://www.edirol.com/products/info/ua20.html)

It's simple and gets the job done (at least for me). I was able to record my guitar and a microphone. But not at the same time. I did have to update the driver. The one that came with my unit had 2002 copyright :(
