The rise of the instrumental!!

Just listening thru a few tunes off MacIdol and so many are instrumental. I guess most of us using GB can't sing! Myself included. :D

But I am wondering if this will cause a shift in music leading to a rise in instrumental music as we hear this stuff and say "hey - that's good, and i don't mind that it has no vocals."

I hope so. If the music is good enough then you don't need the vocals. Often vocals can hide duff backing tracks.

After all plenty (most) jazz has no vocals.

edit: just listened to Heavy Mandolin - enjoyed it and it needs no singing!

I'm not much of a singer so I've always had to compose instrumental music. It's actually much more of a challenge, and then you realise that most commercial music has very simple backtracks with the singing covering most of the melody line. Most pop singles these days don't even contain the classic instumental solo between chorus 2 and 3...

I did have to cut back a lot on that intro riff as it was too repetitive and got boring.

Which is a bit of a point - a few riffs are proving popular and popping up in lots of songs. I can see Apple selling a lot of JamPacks! Me thinks that's where they're gunna make their money on GB (besides the extra Macs that it well sell)
