It gives me a 1.0 on the graphics card in Vista Ultimate. My computer is the 2.4 new MB with the NVidia 9400M GPU. Am I doing something wrong?

You're experiencing what's called Vista syndrome.

Screw that meter! Vista will run perfectly.:D

I wouldn't worry about it.

Are you running vista 64 or 32? I am having trouble getting drivers on the 64 so it says my rating is a 1.

Well....it wouldn't be a big deal but its shutting off stuff like Aero. I want Vista to look pretty damn it!!! Ha ha. Haven't tried any games yet.

I'm running 32 bit.

Have you actually run the "benchmark"? You have to run the test to get the graphics ratings.

Hmmm...nope. I sure havent. Very new to Vista...how do I run that?

Craiger
Oct 23, 2008, 09:48 PM
Ah, I'm not o Vista right now but there is a button right under the rating that says something about testing the rating. I will let you know more if I get on Vista soon.

Oh wait...yeah I ran that. It stayed at 1.0.

Sorry, you got me too.. Must be something to do with your drivers. Sorry I couldn't help.

Off which dvd? Vista, Leopard, Parallels?

The 9400M is not exactly a speed demon like a discrete GPU is. It's still integrated graphics.

Yeah, but its no 1.0. I know that much. I sometimes use a piece of crap Dell at work thats made for nothing other than running Office apps....and it gets a 2.5.

How are you running Windows?

Good point, if it was virtualization then that could explain the 1.0 rating...

Parallels......is it up to parallels to release a new driver to be compatible with this GPU in this case?

Parallels......is it up to parallels to release a new driver to be compatible with this GPU in this case?Does Parallels even support Aero in Vista yet? I've only run XP in it. You're not going to get full hardware access from within a virtual machine.

boss99er
Oct 23, 2008, 10:16 PM
Not sure if its supported.....Aero isnt the sole purpose of finding this out. I just got the machine...Vista...and parallels so I'm just trying to play around and get the best I can get.

I just did more reading on the parallels site now that you mentioned it. Aero isnt supported yet. I bet its coming though with the upgraded GPU's in the latest batch of notebooks.

have you refreshed the score? If you're running it in Parallels or VMWare Fusion, it'll be 1.0 no matter what. Boot Camp will give you a correct score.

maybe... but they've just had a hard time getting virtualization to utilize the gpu of the host machine. it's one of the quirks of virtualization and how gpu's function.

with the dual gpu's that could be a difference.

It's gotta be the GPU, because my MBP gives me a 5.4 overall score.

what he said. a true vista score needs to be in bootcamp as only then will it have access to all hardware

My MBA gets a 3.5 in Vista through boot camp, so it is very likely a virtualization issue.

If I was virtualizing Vista, I would certainly turn off Aero.

Aero isn't even an option in parallels or vmware yet. lol

Yea I have the previous gen macbook and my graphics card (GMA X3100-piece of crap lol) has a rating of like 3.5 or something like that, but that's under Boot Camp, so that's ur best bet.

Lol. you don't even have an option to have Aero, much less turn it off.

Seriously, go with Boot Camp, it's free and much better in terms of performance.

I have 5.3 in vista x64 but in vmwarr fusion, I get 1.0. aero is just not possible to be virtualized yet.

My 2.2 ghz SR 8600m gt 128 mb mbp also gets a rating of 1.0 in bootcamp 32-bit... but Areo still runs anyway, even after the test. I have tried different video drivers and nothings works...

Here is your problem...

Windows/ Microsoft.

Are you really that surprised? :p

The GMA X3100 doesn't deserve a 3.5.

Delete the results and retest. You'll get a different rating if you "rescan". Its not an automatic process.

Don't worry, cranky Vista is just trying to get you to buy a PC.

you need to install this nvidia driver

http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_vista_20.08.html

it is special for the 9400m and the nforce chipset, all should be well afterwards

This should fix it...

Go to, C:\windows\performance\winsat
delete winsat.txt
open the datascore folder and delete all .xml files that you find.

go to performance settings and rate your pc.

Let us know if that worked for you.
