Boot Camp -> Mac OS X Time Issues

Hi everyone,

I know there is lots of documentation on the internet about Boot Camp and time sync, however I'm not finding the answer to my problem.

So let's say in OSX the time is 4:00 PM. I shut it down and boot up into my XP partition, and the time is correct. However when I boot back into Mac OS X the time is about four hours ahead, so 1:00 PM. To change the time back I go into System Preferences and open the Date and Time pane. This forces the machine to go back out to the internet and time sync.

Is there any way to fix this?

EDIT: I just read some more here at macrumors in this forum about Windows changing the clock to local time, then Mac OS X/Unix uses UTC. I guess there isn't a solution to this.

Hi there, I googled this same problem and this forum was the first result. It seems that you just posted this yesterday? I just started running xp a few days ago, and noticed this problem as well. I was wondering if this means that it is just a current 'time syncing' issue, or whether it is something that is just going to happen with boot camp?

It's a problem with Windows. Macs stores the system clock as UTC (aka GMT). But Windows has always relied on the time in the BIOS as the local time. So when you boot up in Boot Camp, Windows takes the UTC time thinking it's the local time, hence you get a "weird" time in Windows.

A workaround is to create this registry key in Windows:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation\RealTimeIsUniversal
