Most of us (lucky ones anyway) will have some time off in the next few weeks from work/school and won't spend every waking moment with some family member we only see once a year and have to pretend we wanna hang out with them even though really we just want some ****ing turkey and eggnog then go home and enjoy our time away from our everyday prisons.

Moreover, the release season is pretty much done (Persona 4 this week :D) so we can all reflect on the games we haven't played much of, or wanna play.

So let's hear it. What is on the holiday 'wanna-finally-play' list?

I'm currently chugging through the last ~20 hours or so left in Persona 3 before I even un-shrinkwrap P4. Then gotta finish (or start...) Fallout 3, Dead Space, BF:BC, LBP, MGS4, Gears 2, Fable 2, Valkryia Chronicles and Chrono Trigger DS... I won't make it through half but it's nice to have goals :p

I'll probably work my way through this bunch of chimps.

DS Kirby Superstar Saga, get a load more new Pokemans in Pearl
PSPTales of Eternia, both Tomb Raiders, LocoRoco 2, Star Ocean
PC San Andreas and maybe bits of my Steam collection I haven't played much of (id and Unreal packs), maybe Fallout 3 if my iMac will run it well enough.
Wii Metroid Prime 3, might go for 100%ing Galaxy, more Brawl with added people home from uni.
GBA this year I will beat Advance Wars.

On the PC I have to finish (that I have an interest in doing so ;):

A Vampyre Story (awesome point n click adventure game in a style similar to CMI, check it out)
Bionic Commando Rearmed
Call of Duty World at War
Dead Space
Fallout 3
Far Cry 2
Heroes 5
Psychonauts (I'm not liking it enough despite the hype though :o)
Prince of Persia (not bought yet)

On the PS3:
Metal Gear Solid 4
LittleBigPlanet
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Grand Theft Auto IV

On the DS:
Castlevania Order of Ecclesia (I really want to beat Albus hard mode)
Trauma Center 2

I have a LOT on my plate, not to mention I also want Tools of Destruction and Uncharted but I'm probably going to hold off on buying them until I clear my backlog of games but I have very little time to do so :D, so no more games for me for the moment, just Prince of Persia and then I'm not buying anything else until I finish the rest.

I don't get the whole backlog thing with games, I just don't understand why people buy games when they are heavily into another one at the moment. Is it really that important to have a game at "launch"? Would it be the worst thing to wait a few months until you actually have time to play. I bet most of you could save a ton of money if you just rented games as it seems you don't invest enough time to warrant the full price of purchase. I just find it crazy when people say "I haven't even unwrapped this game yet". That is $50-$60 just sitting there. It's not that I couldn't afford to buy all the games I want, I just think it gets very expensive to buy every game I want to try, most really don't equate to $60 worth of fun/time.

But to each their own :).

I'm the same, I normally just play games that I really like and when I get bored I'll go out and buy the games I missed, which have normally dropped heavily in price.

^

I pre-order a lot of games online, whether it be from amazon or dell or whatever and usually get them for $10-15 off retail because I'm ordering them ahead of time (ie. Fable II was $40, Fallout 3 was $35, Gears 2 was $45, VC was $55) so if I KNOW I am gonna buy it anyways I just order it even if I won't get to it for a while. Plus I got Dead Space, Battlefield and C&C for free which is even better :p

And I can't rent games... it just drives me nuts for some reason. I like the collection, I like that it's mine and I can play it whenever I want so if I don't touch it for a month who cares? I can pick it up again later. And besides, if I had only rented all the SNES/Genesis games I own from years past, I wouldn't have them to play now.

I'm a collector of games...I've been doing it since NES. I've never rented a game in my life because all of the titles I have now are games I'm truly interested in and would go back for a pick up anytime. I've said this in another thread but I don't play one game at a time(unless its horror/adventure)...I get bored easily and I like to mix it up as much as possible.

The way I see it is I get the game now and wouldn't have to worry about looking for it later...take for example Folklore...I procrastinated so much that when I was ready to buy it I couldn't find it and had to wait weeks to get it and I hate waiting on things I want NOW;) I account things like this in my monthly budget so its no skin off my back.

Need to finish:
Heroes of Might and Magic 5 (Mac)
Umbrella Chronicles (Wii)
Orange Box (PS3)
Bionic Commando Rearmed (PS3)
PixelJunk Monsters (PS3)
Metal Slug Anthology (Wii)
Tons of Wii Virtual Console and WiiWare Games...including Mega Man 9
Mortal Kombat Deception and Armageddon (though, I'll probably never finish them...the quests are too tedious and boring)

Need to start:
Fallout 3 (PS3)
Transformers (Wii)

I'm not buying any more games until I finish at least a few of the above games. Though, I do have 2 games on my Chrismas list which I'll probably receive....

I've been slowly finishing a lot of Wii games, but still have some left and many more to just unlock stuff, not to mention all the DS games that are backed up:

Wii
BWii - I really, really want to finally beat this
Boom Blox - Got caught up in multiplayer and never did much in single
Geometry Wars
Guitar Hero 3 - Finally beat all of Hard
MarioKart Wii - unlock all karts/bikes
Mario Strikers Chargerd - unlock Petey
Smash Bros Brawl - Few more stages to unlock
Trauma Center - never got very far

DS (sigh)
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
Bomberman Land
Contra 4 - on at least medium difficulty
Hotel Dusk
Lost in Blue - (I know)
Metroid Prime: Hunters
Polarium
Puzzle Quest

Too bad I've got too much going on that I will probably, if I'm lucky, only get through BWii, and maybe Advance Wars.

Mario Strikers Chargerd - unlock Petey

Ah! Forgot I've still got a few vehicles left to unlock in MK and got a whole load of Strikers to still play through - haven't touched the single player at all. We just use it for multiplayer.

MacRumorUser's games go directly from the store shelf or warehouse shelf to his shelf. :)

@Chone,
I played the demo for Vampyre Story and enjoyed it, but its puzzle was WEIRD. I'm glad you mentioned it, because I had forgot about it. I would have bought it the first day, but since the US release was delayed, it slipped my mind.

Psychonauts is a game I've never played more than a few minutes, but I've owned for years now -- I'd actually like to play it on the Wii. When Lucas Arts made the switch to full 3D keyboard movement with MI4 and Grim Fandango, they lost me. I completed MI4, but it's an experience I never want to repeat -- unlike the first 3(Especially the first 2.).

Anyways;
DS:
Hotel Dusk
Castlevania:OoE

Wii:
Okami
Harvey Birdman
Super Mario Galaxy :o
Zelda TP. O.O

PC:
The Witcher Enhanced
Mass Effect
Fallout 3

Games I wish to burn:
BioShock... >=)

I really wanna try The Witcher. It looks really cool and there is alot of buzz about it... but I'm scared to get sucked into yet another RPG :o

And I forgot to add Yakuza 1 & 2...

I have waaaaaay too many games to start and/or complete:

PS3: GTA IV, MGS4, Pure, Ratchet and Clank ToD AND QfB, Mirror's Edge, LBP, Wipeout HD, Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, Prince of Persia

Wii: Mario Kart, Twilight Princess, Okami, Super Mario Galaxy

I'm sure that's just scratching the surface, too.:o

I have to add to my "want to buy list"

Left 4 dead....I don't have anyone to play with:(
WoW:WOTLK....I've always been interested in it but never got into it.
The World Ends With You
World of Goo

Technically, I should add:

Mario Kart Wii - There are a few bikes I still need.
Smash Bros Brawl - Characters and Stages still to unlock.
Rogue Leader:(GameCube) - most of the game...I didn't get very far.
There are plenty of other GameCube games that I didn't finish and likely never will at this point....

i have so many games to finish i have barley bought any new games this year and those mostly were PC budget games (silent hunter 4 + add on, civ 4 add ons)
i think i haven't finished a single console game since years .. i always loose attention on one game and then when i come back i have to start all over again (at least with typical single player games)

because of this i only bought GH:WT this year for my Wii

looks like i'm simply not the story kind guy anymore simply and prefer open strategy + party games with instead ... getting old i guess

edit: for the game list during the holidays i'll continue my campaigns in
Luminous Arc 2
Disgaea
Tom Clancy lala War strategy thing
Advance Wars Dark Conflict
Final Fantasy Tactics A2 (130 hours and counting)

and strategy/tactic games on the PC
+ GH and some other party games on the Wii

Since I recently sold my Wii and my PS3 still hasn't arrived I have all the PS3 games I own to start.

I find myself staring at my GTA IV for minutes simply because I have no console to play it on.

To Start:

LBP
FarCry 2
Mirror's Edge
GTA IV
Assassin's Creed

I quite like my starting line up, only wish I could play it now.

I personally liked Assassin's Creed, even though it was repetitive. I recommend doing all the missions and climbing all the towers. I see no value is finding all the hidden flags, especially on the PS3 since there is no achievement. But I really enjoyed the game, maybe because i took my time and did everything I could to add value.

Yay! Weekend is here! Persona 4 is wanting me to play it but I still have 50+ hours of P3 left :(

And Chrono Trigger DS is pretty sweet if people haven't bought it. Screw FFVI, CT is the best RPG on the SNES (well... Earthbound is very close). The SNES version is still better, but that is likely nostalgia talking. The touch controls are lame and the new translation is weird after memorizing the original BUT it includes an original cut of the game and the emulation is perfect. Sound is amazing. L0v3 me some Chrono Trigger.

I just finished up Dead Space, Fallout 3 and gears of war 2....I'm halfway done with my list.
I've been disappointed in these so called "AAA must have" games but Dead Space has proven itself better than fallout & GeoW2.

Really? I just can't get into Fable... It feels like an Xbox 180 game. Everything is so clunky, the graphics are average, the voice acting is grating, the "actions" you do like farting and stuff is absolutely plain ****ing dumb, the animations are horrible...

But I can't bring myself to sell it! ARGH! Everyone says "it gets fantastic when you get more abilities, etc." but I can't stand the journey to sed point.

^ Different strokes mate. There's been loads of great reviewed games this year that have left me cold.

Left 4 Dead...
Valkaryie Chronicles.....
Gears of War 2......
Starwars : Force Unleashed.....

Have them all and can't stand playing any of them for more than 30 seconds before my head explodes with a combination of bafflement, tedium and frustration.

Hmm... well I'm still on Persona 4... I hadn't played it in a LONG while but this weekend I put 13 hours into it. Entering the final month in-game. HIGHLY recommended for RPG fans. <3 Persona.

And I added Prince of Persia too, $20 brand new so I couldn't say no :D
