hey guys... ive been searching the forums and i dont seem to find the solution to my question...

ive been using dvd backup to backup my dvds to my powerbook... i would like to burn some of them so i can have my hard drive back but they are like 7.5 gigs and dvds are only 4.7... how would i compress them for a single disc... i dont want to have to re-rip them with another program... its taken so long already... is there anyway i can make single disc backups out of these...

thanks... i know this is an annoying topic at this point...

Search versiontracker for an app called DVD2ONE. It will compress the movie down so it will fit on a DVD-R.

To actually burn the movie I use a program (can't remember the name unfortunatly but it's something really obvious) to make the video_ts folder into an image. Then I burn the image in Disk Utility.

can i burn it with toast???

Yes, you may burn the DVD2ONE compressed video_ts folder in Toast. Select the "DVD-ROM (UDF)" option in the Data tab.

will the result be playable in a regular dvd player

As long as your stand alone dvd player can read the media type you choose to burn the movie onto (DVD-R, DVD+R, etc), then you should have no problem.

I use DVD Backup to rip, DVD2ONE to compress, and Toast 6 to burn with no problems on Mac, PC, or stand alone players that support DVD-R media.

For those of you without Toast then se DVD Backup to rip, DVD2ONE to compress, DVD Imager to create a disk image, and Disk Utility to burn the image.
