You might try VLC, which does a lot more although it's still beta test software.

I seem to remember a lot of reports of the DVD-RAM drives not being able to play movies reliably.

Is that the one that came standard in the Blue and White G3s?

I have tried VLC it plays but it is choppy, I have 384mbs of ram and it is a 350Mhz overclocked to 400MhZ could this be the problem? Would Hard Disk space be an issue?

Yes, that's too little RAM to play DVDs effectively. The clock speed is also barely sufficient. I think you probably noticed during the installation of the latest QuickTime that a 400 MHz G3 was the minimum machine listed.

Hard disk space is not likely to be an issue but since you lack memory, hard disk speed could be an issue as virtual memory is swapping things from disk to real memory.

A good video card (with plenty of Video RAM) makes all the difference.
