Is there a dual window directory utility for Mac? I've always used them, first on my Amiga and then on the PC.

The early Amiga GUI was very minimal and a dual window directory utility was essential to get anything done. The later workbench software was much better but I still use the 2-window utilities.

On the PC, with Windows NT at the office, we did a lot of file copying and moving over a network. For this type of thing, the 2-window directory utility increased productivity immensely, because it was easier to see where files were going and where they were coming from. I used a program called "Total Commander" which isn't available for the Mac. The author says that he'd have to rewrite the code in Java.

I found Windows Explorer to be unacceptably clumsy to use. Mac's finder is much better but I'd still prefer a dual window setup.

Has anyone heard of such a utility? Thanks.

Well, Transmit (http://www.panic.com/transmit/) by Panic Software, is a FTP Client with a dual window interface. You may be able to just ftp to yourself (what 100.0.0.1 or some ip like that is the loopback...). Then, you have a dual window interface.

You can download the app and try it at Panic.com (http://www.panic.com/transmit/)

What about the venerable Midnight Commander?
