Does anyone know of a (preferably freeware) program/utility that I could use to split a large MP3 file into smaller tracks?

I'm importing some tapes, and I'd like to split the files up into tracks. I've imported the audio via GarageBand, but I can't figure out a simple way to break the audio down into tracks. (I can do it by repeatedly doing "save as" in GarageBand and then cropping the audio down, but this is slower than I'd like, as I'm dealing with a lot of tracks.)

QuickTime Pro should fit the bill. Not freeware, though.

Amadeus II is a good program. It it shareware but it's a fair price for as powerful a program it seems to be.

Heh. Maybe freeware was a bit optimistic. :) I'll check out QTPro and Amadeus II. Thanks for the suggestions!

cue splitter is fine and its free too..

doesn't sound studio come with most macs?

I'm really shocked nobody mentioned the completely-free program Audacity, which can edit Mp3s and do a lot of other advanced stuff...

Although it's not free and out of the question in this request. I think that BIAS "Peak 4" is a great app. I believe they also have a new called "SoundSoap" which is suppose to be pretty cool.

You could just use iTunes....

Just select the start time and stop time in get info: options for the section that you want, then click "convert to ***", *** being whatever format you have selected for imports.

It will then make a file with just that section.

that is also a good way to split up those 'hidden' tracks at the end of CDs where the last song will be like 20 min with 15 min of nothing.

amadeus II is cool also.
