how did you get this..?

there is no demo on the apple website, none on the official cod website, no news article on google or wikipedia..

i havent actually dled it either but :S....

I know there isn't, because they never made one. So, a friend and I downloaded the PC demo, installed it with Crossover, then implemented it into a free version of Cider.

It won't be on Wikipedia, because it was just uploaded. ;)

This isn't an official port also, so it won't be supported by Activision or any stuff like that.

It won't run in Crossover, but you still need it to expand the .exe. You'll need the free version of Cider. I'll find you a link. You'll also need to a few files that I'll upload to Filefront.

Also, you can just download the all 14 rars. It's a lot easier than moving a ton of files here and there and yadada. It should take you about 1 hour total, which is what it took me to download the whole .exe of the PC demo from Filefront.

Wait, so you downloaded the rars or the PC demo from Filefront?

If you downloaded the demo, you'll need a copy of Cider (http://files.filefront.com/GAMETAPNULL12zip/;13016821;/fileinfo.html).

You also need a copy of a couple files, including the CoD4 Demo icon. Here (http://files.filefront.com/CoD4+stuffzip/;13016866;/fileinfo.html) they are.

Okay, I'm going to write this as if you aren't a complete nub with Macs, which I assume you aren't since you're using Crossover. Don't be afraid to ask questions

Just open the .exe in Crossover and install it. Install it into the winxp bottle. Don't worry, it won't mess up your computer.

After installation, go to manage bottles, select is winxp then go to advanced. Click on Open C: Drive in Finder.

You should see something called Common Files or Program Files. Open that and you should see the folder called Activision.

Now here's where the Cider comes in....

Expand the .zip of it

Right-click on the Cider, click on Show Package Contents and follow this path...

Contents -> Resources -> transgaming (it should be in the bottom right corner) -> c_drive. Create a folder called Program Files and stick the folder called Activision from the winxp bottle in Crossover in there.

You still have a few other things to do...

Go back to resources and replace the info.plist with the one I supplied you with. Then go to resources and replace the Cider icon with the CoD4 one. Then just go into Preferences which is in Resources and replace the config, dyndata.reg, system.reg, user.reg, and userdef.reg. There you have it! CoD4 Demo should run on your Mac if you have the right requirements! :)

i dont get it but for some reason i cant open the cod4 installation .exe its 1.32gb and cant open it... oh god. i have 7.11 cross over as well.

That happened to me also. The only way you can get it working I think is open the .exe in Bootcamp, Parallels, or VMware Fusion. The easiest one to get is Bootcamp, but it's a pain in the butt to transfer back and forth. Try getting a trial version of parallels.

Then just go to where ever you installed it, and move the whole Activision file back to Mac OS X. By the way, what are you specs?

It should be posted that Steam can be a nightmare. When everything is working just right its great but the security and fail safes mean you can get stuck in their security loops with no real person to talk to. Many have gotten steam'd at steam. just check the web.

For the plist.info, I'm still learning about those. Just try running it in Bootcamp. You'll get an overall better performance than with Cider.

Back-up your hard drive and wipe your hard drive. I bet you're getting a message that's saying "The hard drive cannot be partitioned, blah blah blah." I got that also. Wiping worked for me.

Anyway, how's the CoD4 Demo working for Mac?

If you are getting that error just get a partitioner like iDefrag, it worked for me. :apple:

Look for the Cider icon. It's called "game1.icns" I'm pretty sure it's in the resources folder. Take the bioshock icon and rename it "game1.icns" then simply replace the old one.

Show me the path of Bioshock please.

so i found what the bug was fixed it and i ran it again.
this time the game actually ran. but nothing happened. no windows popped up or anything just above in the left corner besides the apple sign it said "Game" and some other menus but didnt help at all.

so i ran the coding Cider to see exactly what went wrong and this came up.

and i have a dling speed of 1.2 mb per sec but for some reason when i try to dl your rar i can only dl at a rate of 20 kbp... : X. it would take a total of 3 days thats why i tried to find a way around it xD.;

also il try to get screen shots for bioshock as i actually really want to get that going.

That's odd.. I uploaded at 2.5 megabytes per second. I'll have to look into that.

Okay, look. I'm sorry but I can't really help you anymore with Bioshock. I suggest, set-up bootcamp and run it in there.

Crossover is not for running bigger .exe windows files. Like games, for example. Use bootcamp for that - don't even use an emulator such as VMware Fusion of Parallels. Those won't run it well if at all.

every time I try and open it, all it does is open and close. The app icon is on the dock and the light underneath comes on and in the same second it turns off.

If you don't have a GeForce 9400 in your MacBook (and I assume you don't because white models with this chip have been out for only a few weeks) you can't run COD4.

Next time, read system requirements before purchase/download.

Okay guys. Here's the deal.

I bought Call of Duty 4 for the Mac and it runs okay. I was sick of the performance issues with it, so I decided to install Windows Vista with Boot Camp and try out the Windows COD4 Demo. COD4 for Windows blew away the Mac version. I had a solid 60fps with Sync every frame on and all the fancy graphics on (ie: Shadows, Specular Map, Glow, Depth of Field) I couldn't believe it. My video card is better than I thought... It's just a crappy port by Aspyr.

So I bought the full version of COD4 for Windows and I've been loving the performance boost. Then I found this thread. Using the instructions in this thread, I was able to successfully take the PC version of the game and run it in OS X using Cider. Just so you all don't waste too much of your time, the performance is just like it is in the Aspyr version of the game. I get the same framerates I get running the Mac version as I do running the Windows version in OS X. It must just be a Mac thing. I hope Apple is able to do something in 10.5.7 or Snow Leopard to make graphics run smoother on the Mac. I know my video card is capable of handling these high end games... why can't we enjoy the same experience Windows users have? Am I supposed to spend a thousand dollars on the best graphics card to get the same performance that I can get Boot Camp with the low end card?

Anyways... in conclusion, the Windows version doesn't run any better than the Mac version in OS X. If you want the best frame rates, install Windows in Boot Camp and just reboot your computer to play. It's the only thing that works right now.

you can get company of heroes to work by using cider i haven't done it yet but i have done NFS Most Wanted, Need For Speed Underground 2 and GTA Vice City

Hi guys I just bought Counter-Strike with VMWare Fusion. But....I could play it on my old computer with leopard and cider. Now I can't play it on Snow Leopard. Please help. Call of Duty 4 Demo works fine but not CS:S. Whoever codes it for me...will recive Final Cut Studio Pro FREE. From me. So please help:). Also I am new.:apple:

I do not want to run windows. But use the Cider version that the Call of Duty 4 Demo mac has. I already have Counter Strike:Source for Cider. But not version like CoD4 Demo mac. I need someone to code it.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Xcuse me can some1 please help - on the intel mac i open all the rars and the safe mode message comes up... it boots open the game but the screen goes black and doesn't launch.. what is the problem? Please help (I'm running the game off a thumbdrive- will I need to install it on the desktop) !!! PLZ !!!

I wonder how hard it would be to get the Cider version of COD4 Demo to be modified to run the full version of COD4?

Anyone have any idea how to do this, or to use Cider to make it work?

I've already done it. Just put the full version in the wrapper instead of the demo. It works.

However, it runs almost exactly the same as the Mac version except there are some glitches with the shadows.

B. - How, I have a friend with an old ver of cod4 (he uses mw2 now) how can i use cod4 on my mac (please show instructions on how to convert - would be much appreciated)

A: Take the cider package, right-click, show package contents, drag the full game folder into the demo folder

B: See A.

It's not hard. Follow the instructions for making the Mac Demo and just use the full game instead. It's the same instructions.

thanks for your help i got demo working.. now for the cider... In theory would this work for modern warfare 2? and can you tell me how.. like is cider free I don't have it and does cider work on laptop mac or intel? is it simple to use? has anyone else tried this method? my mate has an old ver of cod4 that i can have but ill need this "cider" to get it to work ??
