i want to design an application that will be used while Iphone is connected to an active phone call. i want just place a call on speaker phone, after navigate to my application and run my application.

I don't think that's possible with the SDK.

Can't you just make the call, put it on speaker, hit the home button and run the app?

I just tried with stanza and it worked like that.

Now an app that is "aware" of active calls wouldn't be allowed in the SDK as far as I can see.

That can be done, but if you want to do something like...record the call, you can't. One the phone is activated your application looses control of the microphone.
