Safari is slow it quit

Safari has recently started to be rather slow to close. The beach ball will be spinning for about 5 or 6 seconds before it closes, and i can't do anything (Safari-wise) in the mean time. Any ideas? It doesn't seem to be specifc to one website, or however many tabs i have opeen (happens with just the main tab open). I don't think this happened before i upgraded to 10.3.3, but then the problem wasn't immediately notiecable when i upgraded, anyway. Any thoughts?

Try purging the cache first. If that doesn't work, move the preferences to see how it works with new preferences.

i've been emptying the cache from time to time, buy it doesn't seem to solve things. The preferences are a bit limited - which should i change? :(

What he means by preferences is going into your user folder, then into the library folder. In there you'll see a preferences folder. Search that folder for a plist file for safari. Then move or delete it. When you restart the app it will create a new one. Sometimes preference files get corrupted and need to be deleted.

Try doing this, then restarting your computer before starting Safari again. I had a similar problem a while ago with Safari not quitting very fast, I cleared my cashe, history, and deleted the plist file, then restarted my computer. Things have been working fine ever since.

Try resetting Safari, under the Safari menu, hit reset safari. It cleans everything out and makes it all new again! I've found that it speeds up browsers, or at least gives you the impression of speed when I change browsers every few months...maybe it's just me. :p

yeah - i was wondering about that button. it keeps yer bookmarks, right> the empty preferences / restart thing seems to be working at the mo :)

3. Delete "com.apple.Safari.plist" and "com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist"
4. Open Safari
5. Reset Safari
6. Quit Safari
7. Repair permissions
8. Hope Safari works now...

Open Disk Utility (in Applications>Utilities), click on your HD, and select "Repair Disk Permissions."

OK - o posted this on the Apple Discussions and i';ve found a solution which should help anyone finding Safari starts to run slow. Just get rid of everything in the Library/Safari/Icons folder - ditching those favicons has really speed things up ! :)
