Just noticed attacks in my router log...?'s

I just checked the log on my router, and it reports on "TearDrop" attack from one IP and 5 "Ping of Death" attacks from another IP.

My reouter reports the packets were dropped, but my question is this: Should I be concerned about these attacks? Is OSX 10.2 vulnerable to these attacks?

I've already reported these to the service providers listed in the IP lookup utility. But as far as my computers, is everything kosher?

In my experience at least, the internet is so flooded with attacks from zombies that it's not an uncommon thing to find them in logs... The occurances will go up if you use a p2p client, i've found. OS X is secure enough at most basic to ward off most attacks (they're windows specific usually), add to that the firewall in system preferences, or a 3rd party firewall config (i use brickhouse for more control over rules) and you've got a tight ship. So, unless the attacks are frequent enough to constitute a DOS attack, don't worry about 'em. Just remember, if you turn a service like websharing or remote login on, turn it off when you're done!

I see what you're saying...I use my router's firewall protection, with the only open port being iTunes. I never use remote login or web sharing.

I'm not panicing, I'm just curious if OSX is even susceptable to these types of attacks.

as long as you are behind a router with a firewall enabled i wouldnt be too woried. your router would get knocked out before your computer did. its people who are connected directly to the internet (like from DSL modem to computer through ethernet with no router) that would be more susceptible to such attacks. in such a case you must enable the firewall on your computer!
