I am in a obsessive Zombie shoot-up phase. I need quite a scare. It doesn't necessarily have to be a zombie, but a survival- horror game would be nice.

Left 4 Dead was tons of fun on the 360 for me
(only out for X360 and PC for now...so I don't if you have Windows on your Mac or not)

Are any of the crop of semi-current or current zombie games Mac native? I think the best you can do is Windows on Boot Camp. Left 4 Dead gets my vote as it's outstanding and most wonderful off line coop. :D

Stubbs the zombie is a reverse zombie game. Mac version is PPC and won't run well on intel, so you can use a PC version.
L4d is pretty good if you get to play with decent people.

Down loadable content? When is it due?

Down loadable content? When is it due?
No announcements. They did provided content for TF2, so with L4D costing more than TF2, they probably will provide some content. However, nothing announced on the official blog at l4d.com

Nobody knows, Valve are about as bad as Apple when it comes to future products ;)

I'm not sure if it is for PC/MAC but COD5:WAW (Call of Duty 5: World at War) has an amazing zombie mode...AMAZING.

I second that! I think i've played Nazi Zombies more than the actual WaW game! I do believe it is only PC/Boot camp though...shame...

I really enjoyed Stubbs! Just picked up the Mac version ultra-cheap, so even if it plays like crap I won't mind. And if I do mind I can just pull out the PC version.

There is a cider port of L4D floating around, you could buy the game for windows then play the ported one on mac

L4D for sure.
But how is a Cider port going to work, can that even connect to the Steam servers? Is it even legal?

I have the port to test out on OSX and it does not connect to steam servers. It's basically a standalone game, no steam nothing, just loads the game up and you play single player. I didn't care for it since I wanted steam services/achievements so I stick w/ rebooting into windows to play my steam ver. Not sure the legality of it either.

With L4D and other Valve games, the real joy is in the online multiplayer versions. The Cider Port does not offer this, so it's really not worth it.

I always thought that having zombies in cod wow is a joke. But since so many people mentioned it...

What!
Then what's the point? The single player in L4D is useless since the bots are so poor. It's a multiplayer game! Gah. I'll never understand the reasoning of relentless anti-Windows folk.

You really should. I have played on XboxLive with 3 of my friends and had an awesome time. Some may say it is the best part of the game...

Killing Floor is a good survival horror, can't go wrong with L4D either.
Bootcamp recommended for both though. Not much fun without multiplayer imo.

Great atmosphere and creepy as hell but it just drags on and on as the game play really doesnt change. Also, the final boss was just so disappointing.
Doom 2 has the best game play of any shooter to this day. I would love to see ID recreate Doom 2 using its 3d engine.

Yeah..L4D is exactly what you are looking for. I still think Doom 3 is the creepiest and scariest shooter but L4D for pure action.
There are a number of sites in Fallout 3 that are rather spooky as well. My favorite game right now.

Dead Space is well worth checking out if you like creepy, there are no zombies, it's more like The Thing crossed with Aliens but it's a worthwhile, fun game.

It's really hard now to scare me in a game. I got over that after playing Aliens vs Predator (a game that gave me a sore tension neck) and System Shock 2. So now, I would be really impressed if anything still gives me a shiver. :)
Looks like there are no zombie games on Mac, at least no modern ones.
For a zombie fix I recommend getting a Wii and playing Resident Evil 4, RE Umbrella Chronicles, RE Darkside Chronicles, The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return, THOTD Overkill, Dead Rising: Chop 'Till You Drop and Dead Space Extraction.

Another vote for Stubbs the Zombie, I played it on my PC a few years ago and it was sooo fun and funny.
Too bad it only works on PPC though.
Are you sure it won't run on Intel? (non bootcamp)

Said left 4 dead cider port does exist and its easy to find if you enter things in google.
it has quite a few stability issues but when I used the windows version on my macbook pro 4,1 it played pretty well short of some unexplainable lag that would occur when fire was on the screen.
The cider port will most likely require you to turn down the graphics so its not a solid answer for the problem.
If you get yourself a copy of wow and play as a blood elf hunter you will be shooting zombies by level 18 (about 1 days worth of play between College classes and bodily needs).
Doom3 is a zombie shooter kinda as your not really shooting zombies your shooting undead controlled by the forces of satan.
A few of the resident evil games came out for mac before nintendo sank their claws in (there are also current iPhone versions).
If you can et your hands on a PS1/2 emulator you can play a good bit of the resident evil series along with Evil Dead.

Crossover Games 8.0 (already released - Demo availiable) should support Left4Dead with Steam.
So online play should be no problem anymore.
But i have not tried at the moment.

My understanding is the L4D Cider Port has poor performance and is basically a bootlegged copy of the game.

A bit OT, but have you ever played Shalebridge Cradle in Thief: Deadly Shadows? Only thing I've ever played that gave me such a fright I jumped up and turned the machine off..

Is this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thief:_Deadly_Shadows) the game? Can you say what the scary thing was without spoiling it? Thumbs up on trying it?
I just tried using standard spoiler code, (code that blacks out your answer and can only be seen when u run your cursor over it) but it does not seem to work in this forum. Anyone know if it is allowed?

It's an old-ish game, but I won't spoil it anyhow.
IMO, it's an exceptional level in a average/good game (it's the only game level I know of which received its own multi-page review: link (http://gillen.cream.org/thecradle.pdf), but don't click it if you want to try the game).
What creeps you out in the level is you're over halfway through it before you see anyone at all, but you can hear things from the very start. It just drips atmosphere. If you're the "pull across the curtains and turn the sound up kind of gamer, you'll love it. Less of a "Hellraiser" gore, more of "The Shining".
p.s. I won't tell you what the scary moment was exactly, but when you're playing at 2am in the morning, and something lunges out at you suddenly, and you run for the door, down to the end of the hallway, up the stairs, to the end of the upstairs hallway, and through a door again; and you turn around, you normally expect to see nothing right behind you.... :p

Thanks for the info! I may consider this. :) Last game where things jumped out at me was Doom3.

I'm not sure how it is on the PC, but Call of Duty 5, World At War has an AMAZING zombie add on. Nazi zombies, I'm not sure if on the PC they're up to Map Pack 3 already. I play on PS3 and it's tons of fun.

Same old story: The Mac sucks for gaming, primarily because nobody writes games for it or ports games fast enough and secondarily because all Macs are way behind in their graphics power.
Buy an Xbox 360 and play stuff like Left4Dead, Dead Rising, Clive Barker's Jericho and the forthcoming Dead Rising 2 and Dead Island.

Before I do any research, I thought I'd ask if Dead Rising and/or Dead Island has decent offline, split-screen coop? :)

can i recommend a great zombie game? it won't scare you, but its really well done (tons of awards) and has a great art style. "Plants Vs. Zombies" is one indie game you don't want to miss! ;) you have to defend your house from waves of zombies by planting various plants. a variation on tower defence, they say. i had a blast with it, and i play LOTS of games ;)

It's more puzzle than shooter but it kicks ass! haha
Mm I would say Left 4 Dead definitively ;)
