We have a 17 inch 1Ghz iMac with Panther (10.3.3). Our problem is that Illustrator (10.0.3) will randomly quit on us. I thought that it was initially a font problem, because it would happen when we tried to choose a font. But it does it when we copy and paste things in and place images in, that it also quits. We generally don't use our computer for anything but design work, with a few games here and there.

Anyone have any ideas? Or similar problems and know of any solutions?

Thanks.

Move the preferences out and see if it continues to have the problem.

Check that nothing else is running, also check to see what % of RAM Illustrator is using. I know there is no more "allocating" RAM as in OS 9 but you can determine how much of the available RAM in the system is used for any one program. for Illustrator its nice to have a minimum of about 256mb available. I use Ill 10.0 on OS 9 and have just installed Illus.CS on Panther but haven't had the chance to really run it through it's paces.
Another thing to consider are the fonts you are calling upon when crashes occur. Illustrator is a "postscript" kinda app and I have had crashes occur when trying to open TrueType fonts with it. Just a thought. And are you typesetting a great deal of text into the document (that's a no-no). excessive amounts of text should be reserved for the page layout programs like Quark or InDesign.
If the illustrator document you are working on is very complicated you might want to use the "split long paths" feature in the preferences, this helps when using the files in other programs as well.
Thats about all I can think of at the moment.
