No sound in x11 apps...

Ok, this is pretty much a clean Panther install, besides a few x11 apps installed here and there.

Anyway, I'm installing GAIM, and I'd like for it's alert sounds to work, but no matter what I do, all I get is the default alert beep of OS X. Is there something special I need to do to "activate" sound in x11 apps?

simplest way is to install qtplay via fink. Then in gaim use a custom sound command - "qtplay soundfile".
