Any help would be appreciated.

Currenly, my wife and I use two different computers. However, we're about to shack up on one machine for a while (until I can afford a desktop). We both get annoyed when we open the mail and start reading the other's messages, or start sending messages accidentally using the wrong account.

Does anyone know of a program that allows for account switching that can solve this problem? What would be perfect would be a screen at launch that asks which account we'd like to use.

THANKS

Why not configure multiple user accounts on said machine so you both can have individual settings for everything?

Mozilla Thunderbird should fit your needs.

But as "Celeron" said, you could as well create multiple accounts on the computer (best solution, in my opinion)

If you have different mail accounts, Apple Mail can display them as separate inboxes, even if you have only a single account on the machine. At least that works for me with IMAP servers.

I suppose going with the separate user accounts is what we're going to have to do. I've never been a fan of separate users...just a preference.

As far as Thunderbird, after reading so many good reviews about it, I was unimpressed--I switched to Thunderbird for a little while a few days ago, and did not care for it. It felt slow, and did not look as clean as Mail, or even Outlook, which I had been using prior to my switch from Windows. In addition, it didn't seem to want to work properly when I clicked on an email link on a webpage--it would do nothing for a while, and then give me an error message later. SO, I chucked it, and I'm back to Mac Mail.

At any rate, I suppose the multiple user accounts will be the way to go...thanks!

apple mail.app is really quite powerful mail client. if you really don't want to have multiple accounts in your system, you can set up the mail.app to multiple email accounts quite easily.

I'd highly recommend downloading a nightly build (http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-0.6/) of Thunderbird. There have been huge improvements to the OS X interface since the last official release.

Entourage allows you to have separate users for email alone (not on system). You can switch very easily (it's like Shift-Opt-Q or something), which brings up the user selector. Very easy to configure and switch on the go.
