Can't you keep the previous version around as well, for this purpose?

this has happened with every new version of itunes since sharing was introduced. kinda apple's way of dragging you along for the ride. keep an older copy around for a while to connect to other users. and if you're lucky, maybe someone will put up a local download site so it will be faster for everyone to upgrade (that's what always happens here - our campus rep is on top of his game)

Apple's iTunes on Campus program might help spread the new version a little faster.

I found this too. Quite annoying, but I can live with it!

Just gotta wait for people to update their iTunes.

How do you keep an older copy? The new version just overwrote the older one.

You can try changing the name of your shared library to "update your iTunes" or something similar. However if there's 1000's of users people may not notice unless you can get a co-ordinated effort together.

ah. i have my folders organized a bit differently. my itunes lives in a "media" folder within the "applications" folder. and i also keep a backup copy on an external.

But if the other people are not using the latest version of iTunes, they won't be able to see his library name, Right?

this has happened with every new version of itunes since sharing was introduced. Yeah, I noticed that sharing didn't work between my iBook (running Panther and a newer version) and my TiBook (running Jaguar and an older version).

That will end tonight when I upgrade them both. :)
