Anybody else getting this to run on an iMac? My specs are Intel 2.4 and 3 gb of RAM, with the ATI RadeonHD2600 video card...it should be able to run the game right? :apple:

I picked up a copy early. The game is not a native port, it has been cider-ized. It does run fine however.

How well will it run on my 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook pro with 2GB ram?

I am running on a MBP 2.4 GHZ nvidia Geforce 8600m GT 4GB ram maxed settings at 1400x900 resolution with pretty much no lag. The game runs better than the sims 2 does on my computer. Love the game, runs amazing.

Anyone know if it'll run well on my new iMac?
It's a 24" 2.93GHz dual core 4GB RAM GeForce GT 120 256MB (a little worried that the video card won't be good enough...I really have no idea how good or bad it is since nVidia went and changed the numbering scheme).
Thanks!

So yesterday I received the Sims 3 for Windows and Mac. I have an iMac G5 and am running it on Mac OS X 10.4.11. Sims 3 won't run on my computer at all - so as an alternative, I was checking to see if it would be possible to still operate Sims 3 on my machine if I update to Leopard and run the program on an external drive? I'm extremely ignorant but have open ears to explanations and other ideas as to how I could get this to work for me.
Thank you. :)

Hatekaity, on the website it specifically says that it cannot run on PowerPCs. I cannot get onto thesims3.com for some reason, but I'll try to get the link for you.
I hope you can find another computer to play it on :(

Well here's the link; http://www.thesims3.com/game/systemreq but they don't list the Mac requirements ...
Apple does:
System requirements
Mac
* Mac OS X v10.5.7 or later
* Intel Core Duo processor
* 2GB of RAM
* 6.1GB of free hard-disk space minimum (with at least 1GB of additional space for custom content and saved games)
* 128MB of VRAM
* ATI X1600 or Nvidia 7300 GT or Intel Integrated GMA X3100
* DVD drive
Note: This game will not run on systems using PowerPC processors (G3/G4/G5) or the Intel GMA 950 class of integrated cards

For anyone interested:
I have been playing the Sims3 for a couple of weeks now using the widely available leaks. My retail copy arrived today (not actually due out in the UK till the 5th - pre-ordered - came early!).
Anyway - I was running Sims3 using Bootcamp in Windows XP on a Macbook Aluminum (9400M, 2.0GHz, 4GB Memory (2.7ish GB actually in use 32bit)). I had full 1280x800 res, all settings were on max with exception to draw distance which I left at default. Runs superbly - very fast graphics - faster than Sims2 on medium detail - obviously this is coded for the latest graphics chips.
So with my retail copy I decided to try it on OSX. Before I even tried playing, I put the settings at maximum, and loaded my saved game from the Windows game I was playing into the Mac side.
Noticeably longer loading times, graphics using the same settings are awful, jumpy and stutters a lot.
Poor graphics drivers from Apple, or poorly executed port? The game itself is running through a WINE emulator I believe - using the same filing system at its core as it does for Windows.
Anyone else notice this?

Thanks for this. I was asked exactly this question by my girlfriend: Does it run faster on Windows than on OS X?
Now we'll first test on Windows 7 on my MacPro :D

I can attest that it runs fairly poorly on my wife's late 2008 blackbook even on the lower and 4:3 resolutions :rolleyes:, on the osx side anyway. I never believe the minimum requirement set by gaming companies.:rolleyes: Then again she could probably use another 2gb of ram. She is now installing on her win7 bootcamp partition...I will report back.

I have the same BlackBook as you (I believe, see sig). It runs pretty decent with 4gb's of ram. Not great, but decent. I have most of the details set to Low or Medium, with the resolution at 1280x800.

^I hear ya, it may be a ram issue here....
Update:
Well the game runs much better on her Win7 side. She is now running in 1280X800 with med settings, with an acceptably low amount of chop. Once again apple is the suck for gaming.:(

I've found a slight niggle with The Sims already.
I've found that on my Mac Pro (X1900 XT '06) I get horrible artifacts before it then crashes. However, it runs fine on our MBP (early 08).
Can anyone else with a similar MP confirm this? I've already tried reinstalled, permissions etc.

Which surely doesn't push the X1900 to its full potential imho... A game will make run it like crazy... If you wanna be sure, just dl/ some game demo, and try to play for like 1h... If you can then i'm wrong :)

I cannot get this game to run on my OSX. I unforunatley have the downloaded/purchased version of the game that does not require an actual disc to play the game. The SIMS 3 game states its compatible for the PC/MAC through use of the technology called "CIDER". When I try to install the game on my OSX though I get the error message, "Cannot verify the integrity of the installer". Seems like EA didn't prep for there authorized digital download copy of there game to work with the MAC? I cannot find a patch for this issue online anywhere nor can I find a solution! It's really frustrating but I'm sure someone out there has this same exact issue and someone out there has a solution to this problem. I'm hoping to get this word out because on the internet there are similar to problems to what I'm incurring, but no solutions. By the way EA sports has yet to reply back to my problem. Thanks all any inputs greatly appreciated.

I was under the impression the digital download version would only work for Windows. I am probably wrong.
Still, my honest opinion is run this via Boot Camp. If you read my post in this thread from earlier, running it through Windows is a squillion times better.
Running on OSX using the same computer - the performance hit on OSX is awful. Obviously this is a poor port. Just not financially feasable for developers to write an entire game for OSX as well as Windows - so they push it through some crappy emulator that doesn't do the job as well.

Sure.
Install Sims3 into Windows, then copy the 'Electronic Arts' folder (has a folder called 'The Sims 3' inside) from ~/Documents/ to your My Documents folder on Windows.
I did this and it worked fine.

2GB ram
NVIDIA GeForce 9400m graphics processor
With 250MB of SDRAM
I need some opionions.

Bought The Sims 3 today and have been playing it on OS X for a hour or so. Haven't had any issues, however the lack of anti aliasing is annoying.
My iMac Specs for reference:
20" Aluminum
Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.66Ghz
2GB DDR2 RAM
ATi Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB of GDDR3 SDRAM

According to the retail box, your MacBook should be able to handle the game fine.

I can report that it works perfect for me and very smooth on my 2008 Mac Pro system with MAX settings on the game at 1900X1200, specs below. Had no issues at all with install or anything else, runs just as good under Leopard 10.5.7 for me as it does under Windows 7 RC.
Specs:
Mac Pro 2008, Leopard 10.5.7, 2 X 2.8Ghz CPUs, 8800GT graphics, 10GB RAM, 4TB Hard Drive in Raid 0+1.

Okay guys this was on another thread. There is indeed a fix for the digital download version of SIMS 3 (PC) edition to enable it to work on your (MAC) OSX. If you follow these simple steps you will indeed be on your way to playing the SIMS on your preferred machine MACINTOSH. Here it is,
Pasted from a previous user,
I'll take you through it step by step. Do exactly as I do.
1. Unpack the zip file that was downloaded from D2D or whatever site you downloaded the digital download game from. A folder should show up.
2. Open "Disk Utility" on you mac.
3. When Disk Utility opens, click on the "+new image" tab. When the drop down menu appears, start with the top dialog box. Name it "Sims 3." 2nd box- save it to the desktop. "Disk Name", don't touch that one. The next box "volume size", hit that, and select custom. When the next window appears, Click the left box and put in "6". In the right box, change to GB. Now click on the Partions Tab, change it to just plan old CD/DVD. Don't touch anything else, click create.
4. Close disk utility.
5. Go to the desk top. There will be a Sims 3.dmg file, and a "Disk Image" Icon. Go INTO the folder that was extracted from the sims 3 zip file. Highlight all contents in the folder, drag them onto the "Disk Image" Icon. It will copy them. DO NOT DRAG THE FOLDER ONTO IT. GO INTO THE FOLDER, AND GET THE CONTENTS, DRAG THEM OUT OF IT.
6. When it's done copying, double click the "Disk Image" Icon that we created, go inside, Click the "The Sims 3 Installer" Icon. It will run. :)
*THIS FIX WORKS I HAVE VERIFIED IT™

Ha! I have a X3100 in my MacBook, and even I can run the game decently.
It's a bit slow, and I definitely want to try it on Windows for the speed boost that brings (which requires defragging the OSX drive so I can partition it... ugh). I'm also going to upgrade from 2Gb to 4Gb RAM (it's only £40 for 4Gb of DDR2).
Also, my copy is telling me I have an unauthorised copy, even though I deleted the early copy and installed the game I bought from the retail disk and updated. Do you have to register the serial or something for that to go away, or is it just residual files/settings somewhere?

Running it with 1GB RAM is really slow. Just bought some ram waiting on 4GB's that should make a difference in lag time. What you mean you deleted the early copy? Did you have two different copies or something??? Sounds like you need a complete Uninstall.
