Recently my Software Update has packed in :( It is able to check for updates (so it connects fine at this point), but then when I select an update to install it fails telling me to check my internet connection. My internet connection is fine. Any ideas what's up?

My 12" PB G4 did this about a month ago, try repairing permissions, then restarting. If that doesn't work, well, either call Apple or good luck!

I've done repair permissions, I refuse to rebuild just for this, but it's very annoying :( Anyone?

I've got the same problem.
I just got a brand new g4 powerbook :D , got it set up, went to update and the same problem occurs, can't get the upates to actually download.
Weird thing is i then tried it on my imac, my mums imac, my dads ibook and then my brothers g5. none of them work.
i wondering if its a isp problem. I'm on blueyonder/telewest, who are you with?

There's a lot of threads about this on various Mac boards at the moment and the one thing they all have in common is the fact that Telewest is there ISP. Aparently telewest have denied that this is a problem with them, don't know if since they have changed there minds.
Get in touch with them though as the more people who complain about this problem then the more chance they will get off there arse and fix it.
As you may of guessed I'm aflicted with this problem too.
Also it seems to have coincided with the recent free %50 speed increase for all customers.

its so typical they increase the speed but then it does not work properly.
i'm going to give support a call and give em an ear bashing.

what other forums and boards have people mentioned this problem on?
blueyonder have asked me to tell them.

Hmmm...that is weird. If we can get a bit more solid proof that this is only effecting BY customers then I will call them.

on phone to them now, got a helpfull lady who is trying to ask around to see if other people have complained and speaking to the 2nd line technitions etc. lets hope they find whats wrong
all they did for the speed increase was chage settings in the modem. so she does not see the speed increase as being to possible cause.
just hope its sorted.... i've got 12 updates to get!!!

Off the top of my head I know there are disscussions about this on the official Apple discusion boards.
Here's the first one I found.

"I've been reading the Blueyonder newsgroups and it appears to be a DNS problem somewhere. Someone suggested changing DNS settings in the Network section of System Preferences to 158.152.1.158 and
158.152.1.43. It seems to fix the problem for now"
apparently this fixes it but another poster says it does but is slow?

hmmmm spoke to the tech people an one of them is a mac owener.... who actually uses BT dial up. And he has the same problem. He also knows people with macs on other isp who cannot access the updates.
perhaps it is apple who is at fault. somekind of anti english campaign they are starting?
