Bootcamp -Extracting Windows XP-

Hi

I have a Intel Mac running version 10.5.6 with 4GB memory. Blah blah.

Ok :)

I currently run Vmware Fusion on my mac with windows xp on it to do some windows software requirements.

Some thinks need more power/graphics then vmware fusion enables and i know you will all shout bootcamp but that is what i need, i have the bootcamp assistant thing, but NO copy of windows on a cd.

I have a windows machine with windows xp sp 2 on it, but windows came preinstalled on it so i only have the upgrade cd. Is there anyway to burn the operating system to a cd to install?

OR is it possible to copy the windows xp from Vmware fusion (like parallels) to a cd and then install from there?

Based strictly on what you are asking, "no" there is no way I am aware of that you can extract and burn an install disc of your system from either Parallels or another Windows machine.

You could possibly back up your system (clone) and restore it to a Boot Camp partition, but I would not advise it unless you plan to erase the install you are using to clone.

In theory, you should be able to clone the XP install to an external, then onto the boot camp partition, but I'm unsure exactly how to do it.

Perhaps with Norton Ghost, but I have never paid any attention to anyone who has actually done this.

That's what I was thinking. I don't know of any other Windows-based clone tools.

Thanks for your comments although after much searching the web i found it is possible using some software called nlite (search if you want) i got windows xp disk 1 and then slipstreamed windows sp 2 onto it. So i have windows xp sp2 then i installed it on the windows computer and thats where im at currently, im about to begin making the install disk for my mac (there are instructions for that also) i will post links.

But if you already have SP2 slipstreamed, why are you installing it on a Windows computer to create another disc? You can install a slipstreamed SP2 onto a Boot Camp partition without that step from what others have done here.

I thought that too, but i tried it, and i get an error saying you need an original or full version of windows.

Neither of my disks are that.

One is windows xp sp1 UPGRADE and the other is sp2.

I slipstreamed them together and installed on my computer and i now have the i386 folder, although i am getting an error when copying it to my desktop the error being - Default is in use and cannot be copied-.

I will look into it.
