I can't really afford .Mac right now, so I can't use that service. I have calender information I need to keep, addresses I need to save, and bookmarks in safari that I'll need later. I'd like to save all this information on a conventional CD-RW, but I'm not exactly sure how. Where can I find the files containing this information? is there some program that can help organize a backup? I'll be leaving my computer for some two years, so I need something long term in which to keep my essentials. Any help would be most apriciated.

Assuming you're using OS X all that information (calendars, addresses, bookmarks) should be in the Library folder inside your Home folder. This also includes your email archives. The easiest way is just to copy the whole folder to your CD-RW and burn the disc. If you only want calendars, addresses and bookmarks take a look in the Library folder - the sub-folders you want are fairly obvious.

Ah, excellent! exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a lot! I didn't realize it would be so easy.

Also if you're using a microsoft email program and you need to back up your emails/address book, that data is located in your home documents folder under the Microsoft User Data folder.
