Mini-dvi to dvi in bootcamp

I bought a mini dvi to dvi adapter for my macbook from apple and it works fine in osx but i cant get it to work in windows xp bootcamp. I plug it in and the macbook screen flickers but the external monitor stays black. It doesnt seem to recognise it under graphics properties. Ive also tried going to display settings but it doesnt recognise it.
