Hi there.

New Mac user here, just bought a MBP! I'm going to be using Fusion to run Windows concurrently so I can run one specific application. Anyways, I have two basic questions and hope you'll offer your ideas!!

1. What version of windows do you recommend? XP? Vista? 7? and why?

2. What's the best place to pickup a cheap copy of Windows? I'm in Canada...

Thanks, all... looking forward to experiencing what Mac has to offer :)

If you are gonna use only 1 application and it supports XP, then use XP.

BUT! I'm sure you are not going to use only 1 application so install win7. After all it's the newest version of Vista :D.

You can get very cheap copies from the ... they are original from MSDN/Technet a.k.a M$ :D for <$0.50, the price for the blank DVD. :D

1) If you're running Fusion, Windows XP. There's less heft in the OS to slow you down. I don't care what people say about Windows 7 being great on low-end hardware - Aero is still taking up resources and disk space even if you have it turned off.

If your application is made for XP, your choice is made for you - run XP. I tried getting a scanner that worked in XP to work in Windows 7's XP mode, and it didn't. Also XP Mode isn't available on lower than Windows 7 Professional, so that might not even be a choice for you depending what license you get for Vista/7.

2) If you're in Canada ... a Canadian institution of higher learning (college, university) would be the first place I'd think of for cheap Windows copies. That or buy OEM from a website that ships to Canada.
