Iīve searched this forum and read iChatīs help files, but I think my question is so basic that itīs not covered anywhere.

I have iChat AV 2.0 (v145). I have a sony DCR-TRV 19 camcorder, which connects to my PB via firewire - and which iChat recognizes just fine.

My question:

1) Can my friends without a camcorder attached still see my video transmission and hear my voice? (I assume they have to have the same version of iChat....) Do I have to invite them to a video chat, or can I just have the camcorder hooked up and broadcasting?

Sorry this is so basic, but I truly canīt find an answer anywhere...

You can initiate one-way video conferences with other users of iChat. You can't, however, do one-way chats with AIM users on Windows.

They will see and hear you, and if they have a mic you will automatically hear them.

Thanks, that was helpful, especially about not being able to communicate with AIM/Windows users. But what about people using Macs who have AIM accounts? Both people I chat with regularly are in this situation. (I have a .mac identity, not AIM).

.Mac and AIM are pretty much the same service, they run off the same servers at AOL

What 7on meant was that the One Way Video feature doesn't work with AIM/Windows

for the One Way Video as long as both sides use iChat then you shouldn't have a problem ;)

You can still text chat and I think do Audio and 2 way Video with iChat and AIM 5.5 and if you don't need/want a .Mac name then use your AIM screen name and login instead
