Hi, I just got a new hp 5850 printer. I went to install the software with it but when I open the CD and click on the file. The powerbook does not recognize what application to use when opening the software and requests that I pick one. I am new to mac so I have no idea what to pick. I went on hp website and downloaded the software and the same thing happend. Please help me fix this. Thanks so much.

Forgive me for asking but you are starting the Mac OS X version of the software, right?

I came up with this page for the driver software: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?product=305980&sw_lang=8&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=&os=219

What kind of file are you trying to use? Is it a .dmg, .sit, .bin, or something else? The first is covered by Disk Utility, the second and third by Stuffit Expander.

Hey, you were right. I just installed the right software mac ox10. Now, it's a wireless printer do you know how I make my computer connect to it? Thanks

I don't have any wireless devices so I'm not sure but here is my guess:

Go into the Utilities folder within the Applications folder.

Launch Printer Setup Utility.

Click on Add printer... in the toolbar.

It should ask you for a type as should in the screenprint I made. It may default to Rendezvous, which should find it without any help. You may need to select a type though.

It should identify all printers available for that type. Choose the correct one.
