Understanding ITunes music rights

I'm still a little befuddled by the music rights offered by Itunes. What does it mean that I can only share music with 4 other computers? (Does this mean 4 computers concurrently on a network or something else? I'm essentially confused about how the number of computers is tracked.)

Also, is it true that if you make a quicktime movie using music purchased off of Itunes, other computers playing the quicktime movie can't hear the music?

Thanks!!Regarding the 5 computer thing. When you purchase music from iTMS, the file has your account information embedded in the file. You'll be able to play that file (or any copies of it) on any Mac or PC that is authorized. By authorized, I mean that iTunes is "logged on" your account. The catch is that only 5 computers can be authorized simultaneously. It's that easy.

Just remember to de-authorize a computer before you give it away or reformat the HD, etc.

what happens if you format a hard drive because something died.. but didn't have the chance to deauthorize? i would hope apple allows you to have a fix for this somehow....

I'm looking to create Quicktimes videos for my website. If others can't hear the music I'm using which was bought off of iTMS then that's a big bummer!!

I don't know this for a fact, but others have said that if you contact Apple, they can deauthorize all of your computers in one shot. So you'll need to re-authorize the remaining good computers before you can listen to the music.

I've heard the same thing. Here is the Apple Support (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/authorization.html) page for iTMS authorizations, and I think you can use the form at the bottom of the page to contact customer care if you need them to deauthorize a computer for you.

thanks for that info. appreciate it. i think i have one computer that wasn't deauthorized before it went BLEH on me... i didn't have much control over deauthorizing.. i was more concerned about pulling data off the hard drive lol
