Download HandBrake (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21117&page=3), that will rip the whole movie, then use QuickTime Pro or iMovie or something to edit the parts out you don't want.

I use a combination of OSEx (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/9830), DivXRay (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/9996), and DivX Doctor (if necessary) (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/4683).

30 hrs? To rip a single DVD? What kind of mac are you running this on... one of those limited edition dual 2 Mhz G5's (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=82218&highlight=dual+2+mhz+g5) ? It only takes me about 3hrs to rip a full dvd with 2-pass encoding on my 1ghz powerbook and about 1.5hrs on my dual 2ghz G5. I say rip it via handbrake as an .mp4, and edit that.

Ahuh!
