How can I get plain black wallpaper/background?

I looked at a few sites for wallpapers that people provided, but have yet to find some I really dig (except for interfacelift.com and maybe one other one).

Anyway, I'd just like my background plain ol' black. How can I do that? The solid colors provided w/ OS X does not include black - the closest is like dark gray.

I can't find a free drawing application similar to MS's "Paint" (which is included w/ Windows) to just draw a big black rectangle and use that as my background. :)

Help would be appreciated. :)

If you have a newer mac, you should have something called "Graphic Converter." Just make your black box in there.

2) Buy a copy of Photoshop.

3) Open the wallpaper.

4) Make white your foreground color.

5) Edit: Fill with foreground color.

6) Filter: Gaussian Blur: 73 pixels

7) Filter: Sharpen

8) Image: Adjust: Invert

9) Save as "convoluted black background.jpg". Use the highest quality.

10) Pass this on to all your friends.

heh. . . ive been using macs for a couple of years (since about the time OS X came out) and i never knew about graphic converter! there are a number of other posts asking for a program similar to paint that comes with windows. wow. i feel smart.

Open AppleWorks. Start a new painting. Under "Format" then "Document" change the painting size to 2000 by 2000 pixels. Click the paint bucket icon. Select Black. Click the painting. Save as jpeg, best quality, on desktop. Then launch iPhoto. Click "File" and then "Import". Select your image and press "Import". Find your image under the photo library. Click your image ONCE to select it. Then press "Desktop" at the bottom of the page. Close iPhoto. Close and do not save your created image under appleworks. Drag your image into the trash from your desktop. Hold the right "Control" button at the bottom of your keyboard. Move the cursor to the picture of the trash can. Click the image. Let go of the control key, and click "Empty Trash".

That was easy, right? :p

It's so easy:
Choose any background that doesn't fill the whole screen.
Choose black as the color for remaining background.
Use Command + Shift + 4 for snapshot tool.
Snap any part of the black background- any size.
That's it. You have a piece of perfect 100% black you can you as your wallpaper- just choose stretch or tile.

The point of blurring and sharpen? haha. Why don't you just say

1) Pick a color.

2) Find the opposite color of your chosen color.

3) Pass this on to all your friends.
