for someone that has never programed before... whats the best way to learn?

can anyone recommend any online resources or books for a begginer?

ideally i would like to learn to program basic iphone apps, like a snake game or something basic.

The sticky at the top of the Programming forum has a list of books and sites that are supposed to be helpful. I plan on picking up the the Hillegass book soon and working through it over my winter break. I believe it is called Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X. Good luck.
