What can I get in the way of great singleplayer RPGs? I do not like bootcamp, so don't even go there.

Please list anything that comes to mind, from legit games to cider ports (pm me with links from those "less than reputable" sites if you can)

Thanks!

1. Neverwinter Nights (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neverwinter_Nights) (the original)- old game, might not run on new macs.
2. Fable- not a bad game.
3. Dungeon Siege- somewhat old- check system requirements.
4. Neverwinter Nights2- you might like, I was not impressed.

You are looking for a great Mac native solo RPG? Don't know if such a thing exists. When the original NWN came out it was considered great, all most 20 years ago. Here is an Apple RPG Game link (http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/software/games?n=adventure&mco=MTM3NTAxNTA&s=topSellers). Check Amazon and ebay for Mac versions of these games too.

Dragon Age is going to have a Mac version soon. It is really well done, too.

I'll just point out that Dragon Age: Origins has already been released for Mac. There's a thread about it one or couple threads below (or above) this one.

You shouldn't try it because it causes addiction, but i think that World Of Warcraft is a great RPG, and it runs seamlessly in your mac :)

The Original NWN was released in August 2002. So it's close to 7.5 years old, not 20 years old. Still runs fine in Rosetta and still a pretty decent option when you consider the two official expansions, all the premium modules, and the user-created modules.

Any Spiderweb Software RPG and Eschalon Book 1 (and soon Book 2) are also very good single-player RPGs if you don't mind old school graphics.

how old of games do you like?

These are all the RPGs i currently have installed on my Mac.

None of them are Native versions, they are all Windows or DOS versions running though packaged up .app ports using Wineskin, Cider, or DOSBox, no Windows/Bootcamp required.
some are very old... 20+ years, but i still love them.

In mostly alphabetical order....

Baldur's Gate (Cider)
Baldur's Gate II (Cider)
Betrayal at Krondor (DOSBox)
Crusaders of the Dark Savant (DOSBox)
Dungeon Hack (DOSBox)
Elder Scrolls II Daggerfall (DOSBox)
Elder Scrolls III Morrowind (Cider)
Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion (Cider)
Eye of the Beholder Trilogy I, II, III (DOSBox)
Icewind Dale (Cider)
Lands of Lore (DOSBox)
Might and Magic DOS collection, 1 through 5 (DOSBox)
Might and Magic 6 (Wineskin)
Might and Magic 7 (Wineskin)
Might and Magic 8 (Wineskin)
Might and Magic 9 (Wineskin)
Neverwinter Nights 1 + expansions (Wineskin)
Neverwinter Nights 2 + expansions (Wineskin)
Ultima Underworld Duo 1 + 2 (DOSBox)

most of those (14 of the 19) are ports I made myself... so I can help you getting copies if you want.
All the ones I made are available in the DOS or wrappers section over at portingteam.com forums.

My mistake, thought I saw 1992 somewhere. If I had thought about it, I would have known better, sorry. :o

actually.. Bioware's NWN that your talking about was the second Neverwinter Nights. There was a really old version that was nothing like that made... started in 1991.

1. Neverwinter Nights (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neverwinter_Nights) (the original)- old game, might not run on new macs.

NWN runs great on my Snow Leopard powered unibody MBP. That includes both expansions and all of the Premium Modules.

You shouldn't try it because it causes addiction, but i think that World Of Warcraft is a great RPG, and it runs seamlessly in your mac :)

Not single-player as the thread asked.

Very much agree! Also, the last Avernum is now out for Mac and is really good!

When games approach 10 years old, it just becomes a blur. :)

what do you do if you're trying to run an older game through dosbox but it says "This program will not run in DOS mode."

I downloaded a favorite game of mine, Chaos Overlords, from abandonia and it says it runs on dosbox but... no dice. any ideas?

Hello

These games will NOT work under Lion they require Rossetta.

Two Worlds II works great and is mac native, i think it's the only modern RPG available on mac. (Unless you count the cider ports of Dragon age series)
Neverwinter Nights 2 is on App Store now, so maybe they have updated it, it's supposed to work on Lion. KOTOR is on app store too.
Depths of Peril is Mac too and on Steam.

Older games runs pretty well in Wineskin, I'm playing www.gog.com versions of IceWind Dale and Neverwinter Nights I on my MacBook Air with intel HD GFX (Lion).

Hello

Firs tof all that post you were replying to was from 2009, way before Lion...

All of the Windows versions of those port easy with Wineskin... well "easy" if your familiar with Wineskin. There are also wrappers ready to go for all of them over at portingteam.com forums. You have to have the Windows versions to use though... but they run without needing Windows itself.

Any way you'd be able to hook me up?

I haven't updated it in awhile, but the old one I have up over at Portingteam.com forums should work.

If you sign up over there and do a forum search, I have a Might and Magic 1 through 5 collection app, and also Might and Magic 6, 7, 8, and 9 wrappers available for download. If your wanting MM7, you'll have to get the game yourself, which might be tough these days... the wrappers are just a way to get them to run as Mac apps.

Once the devs get their rear in gear, Fable: The Lost Chapters I enjoyed a great deal, currently in Lion there are some awful graphics issues if your Mac has a Nvidia GPU.

I'm annoyed by this since I can't continue on until the game gets a patch...

Any day now Feral!
