between those + QuickTime I haven't found a video I can't play (except On2's VP6)

how about paying an .mpe file?
I have a great one here about a plane landing on a jeep - but since I switched can't play it?
I have QT Pro and VLC loaded.

Install 3ivx (http://www.3ivx.com) and you should then be able to open .avi files in QuickTime Player.

I have QT Pro and VLC loaded..mpe is an extension for some MPEG videos.

Suggestion: Download and install both major DivX codecs, the one from DivX.com and the one from 3ivx.com. Use the QuickTime updater to download and install all third-party QuickTime codecs supported by Apple. Several are not installed by default. The On codec is one of these. Search the web for every other QuickTime codec that. Included in these is one for Ogg Vorbis.
