I would like to increase the tempo of an MP3 file without altering the pitch.
Unfortunately this cannot be done in GarageBand, but does anyone know of a good Mac app that will? does Soundtrack do it? or, preferrably, a small (and thus less expensive!) utility?
thanks :)

I think the Soundtrack Loop Editor (or something with a similar name) can do it. It's a free download, but it wouldn't work with all tunes.

<Edit: Yeah, it's the Soundtrack Loop Utility. Here's a tutorial:

Hope this helps.>

there's also Traktor DJ Studio. but it's expensive and it doesn't support AACs.

The amazing slow-downer. Not sure where it is on the net, but a quick Google search should find it. I believe this allows both slowing down and speeding up.

I second Dave00's recommendation for the Amazing Slow Downer (http://www.ronimusic.com/). It's an incredible tool, especially for musicians.

Does anyone know of any programs that can reverse an MP3 without lowering the quality much? I know of some for XP but none for OSX. I don't want to have to go into Final Cut Pro every time I want to sample an MP3 reversed!
