Just like the GTA IV was? :D If it's that crappy (knowing that Rockstar is more interested of consoles), you really need a serious power horse! Plus you have to wait till several patches fixes all issues.
I'd get the PS3 version and sell it if it's not that nice (when is the PC version coming anyway?).

I'd say the Windows version was a big improvement given the framerate increase (on my iMac compared to my PS3), the gameplay recording and double the players in each online game? I did what you suggest with GTA4, but it gets complicated once DLC starts coming out.. If I have players who like to do multiplayer on both it could get expensive.
But yeah I think I'll get the PS3 version anyway and probably buy it again for windows once it comes out, lol.

Multiplayer was very buggy in my experience last night. People getting booted off randomly, poor connections across the board, people/guns/horses becoming invisible, NPC enemies being trapped outside the geometry, and that was just in a couple hours play. Hopefully they can get it sorted out quickly. When it worked though it was fun.

I was able to see noticeable difference... It just sucks that they sell them both for 70$ while PS3 is just poorly ported while it has A LOT more power. Drawing distance is also lower and so is FPS, though it might not be so noticeable as in GTA IV.
IMO it just sucks, why can't they do it for PS3? It would be much nicer on PS3 but due Rockstars decisions, it's poor. I'm not saying it's bad game, just pissed because it could be better!

They should really just make it on PC and blow the 360 AND PS3 out of the water, just like with GTA IV. I can't believe how much better BoGT is on PC.
That said, I am happy with Red Dead so far. A few nitpicks regarding horse riding (SotC still is my favorite) and looting bodies (why does it take so damn long to tell me what I picked up?) and hunting (why must I watch the blood splat on the screen every-single-time?) but shooting fools in the face is very rewarding. Makes me more excited for GTA V though...

GTA IV has nice graphics but it's bad port too, it's VERY demanding game on PC.
I've been playing the DLCs of GTA IV on PS3 now and the FPS sucks when driving fast and so does drawing distance, sometimes I'm driving on nothing as it takes time to draw the street! I hope future Rockstar games will be natively for PS3 and PC too.

Mixed feelings about this game.
It looks great, very atmospheric, the voice acting is good, the missions and mini-games seem very much in keeping with the feel of the era. I really like too the way several elements of the game seem taken right out of various Western movies. The band of criminals holed up in a deep, twisty gorge. The shoot-out on a rocky out-crop with you ducking between the boulders. The dodgy snake-oil merchant..
The controls feel a little awkward for me though - in particular when on horse-back. There are a few spots (especially on slopes) where you can get stuck, and it's amusing watching your horse moon-walking around trying to get out. And it's far too easy to fall off a ledge or into water (instant death).
One annoyance, on some missions you're asked to bring a criminal back alive, but if you haven't done a certain mission where you learn to lasso, you have no way of doing so. I spent ages trying to cripple/knock a guy out, only to eventually realise I had to kill him.
Another oddity - sometimes you fight your way through a location as part of a mission, only to have to go back and fight through it again as part of a 'freeplay'. Odd.
For a free-roaming game though, there doesn't seem to be much 'need' to explore. There are side-missions, though some of them are very brief and many of them repetitive. Most of the interesting gameplay comes from the main missions, all of which seem centred around the same town.
Still, it's really growing on me the more I play it.
p.s. I did notice one funny bug though. I was fighting my way through Tumbleweed. I went to crouch down by the well in the centre of town, and was suddenly thrown waaaay into the air above the town. Needless to say, my character didn't survive the landing.

Well, PS3 only is unlikely but if I recall correctly, some bigger leader of Rockstar said that they are very interested of taking the full advantage of Blu-Ray and Cell processors in GTA V, so I wouldn't be surprised if PS3 was the main platform and I really hope it is.

Picked it up on 360 if any one wants to do some MP (Gammer tag is: The JTizzle).
I'm about 75% the way though the single player, really good so far. There aren't like the hidden packages per say in GTA4 for the guy who asked above, but you are sent on 4 different optional quest challenges. These range from collecting herbs, making crazy shots, killing animals a specific way, and finding lost treasure chests with a map. There are also a few hidden rare creatures to hunt as well, but not so much just random packages to find.

I really like the treasure hunts. A minor annoyance is how many games are only really playable via the mini-map. So instead of being immersed in the game and looking for visual clues, you're starting at the mini-map following dots. With the treasure maps, you're having to use your own eyes.
Unfortunately, at other times I've found it difficult to tell who are the thieves and who are the good guys. I end up looking at the map to try and tell which people are represented by the red dots, and often end up shooting at the wrong guys.

6 hours in an I'm totally bored.
"Random" events are cookie-cutter "quick! lasso the guy running away and bring him back to me!" or "help! I'm being robbed!"
I really miss the taxi's from GTA. Yeah, I know there are stage-coaches but they aren't as easily accessible as the taxis were and riding across the damn world is slow and boring.
And why is the game STILL teaching me how to do things like lasso guys or pay off a bounty? Honestly, the ticker says I am 26% done the game, and still the missions seem to be tutorial-like. Where is the complexity? So far most everything has been a long boring ride while Marston and guest talk, then shoot 5 or 6 guys with Dead-Eye, then another ride.

You can travel for free and quickly from place to place if you set up a camp (press select and choose camp) and then just travel to destination. Taxis would make RDR more or less unrealistic.
I'm completely the opposite. I've done dozens of mini games and extra crap but they still don't get me bored, they are amazing. Last night I spent 2 hours playing poker! I've played ~40% and I feel that I've barely even started it yet. The story isn't that great but it goes along. Somehow I like it more than GTA, maybe because not everyone has M4.
The multiplayer is also great though campers makes it boring sometimes. Overall, it's a game you shouldn't play more than 2 hours straight. In small dozes, it's awesome

Dead-Eye - or something like it - was obviously a necessity in this game. If you don't have a modern weapon firing several rounds a second, then gamers aren't going to have enough accuracy to hit anything, particularly when on a horse or vehicle.
I always try and use cover, then pop up and aim manually. Except on a horse, where manual aiming would be freakishly difficult. But then Dead Eye just makes it too easy. It's more difficult on the top level, but still..
I love the fact that you can play the side games in various locations, and watch drunks staggering around or the 'ladies of the night' strutting around in the background.
My favourite bit is when someone tries to steal your horse. First time was a girl in the middle of nowhere took it and disappeared off. I had a momentary panic thinking I'd have to run all the way back to the nearest town.. then remembered. One whistle and I heard a thump behind the trees, before my horse comes trotting back to me. Hopped on, chased the woman down, lassoed & hogtied her, threw her over the back of my horse and rode back into town...
Go Rockstar, playing to the inner misogynist... :p

Fast-travel is a bit tricky, particularly getting to & from Mexico, until you realise you need to buy the relevant maps in order to be able to fast-travel from camp.
My bugbear is (a typical one for these type of games) is how they rely so much on the mini-map - you couldn't play most missions without it. Instead of watching the screen for a dust-cloud, or horse tracks of someone escaping from you, you're chasing a dot on a mini-map. Sometimes I can't figure out who the good and bad guys are on-screen, so again I just watch the mini-map to see which turn red and which turn blue. Pity they couldn't put more thought into those areas of the game.
Still, I do think it's a very good game.

I had never set up a camp before as i don't believe it tells you that you can teleport, only refill ammo and save. Point taken. Will use that.
And the last two GTA packs ( lost and damned + tbogt ) have both featured well done check pointing in the missions.
I'm not saying it's a bad game. Its very well done. I just feel bored in it. I never really liked the mini games in gta and red dead seems to push them a bit harder as part of the experience. Maybe I'm a sucker for fast cars and exploding shotgun ammo

It is a strange method - "stop and setup camp if you want to travel quickly".
:p It's also quite awkward, if you're in a town, you need to run a distance outside in order to set up camp. And you need to buy maps in order to fast travel to certain areas - that's not very obvious. Going from the US back and forth to Mexico can take a looong time.

Personally, I like the games in RD:R, since it makes the game-world more than just pretty scenery, but something you can interact with and feel part of.
I do think the game is quite slow-paced though. I know that's a necessity to a certain degree, given the setting and era; but there does seem to be a lot of plodding around with nothing to do, or few real surprises as you explore the world. I've no problem at all with a huge game-world, but it does seem relatively empty.

I think the big issue is the generally jankyness found in all Rockstar games. The controls and menus just never feel quite right. Prime example is the weapon switching in red dead. How annoying is it to switch from gun to lasso quickly? Most games just let you tap the bumper to quick switch to the last weapon equipped (ie mass effect).
Still, it is mighty fun dragging baddies behind your horse to their grisly death :-p

They should have mapped to the D-pad for weapon switching. I do find that the most annoying part.

I'm getting very annoyed because you CAN'T CHANGE the CONTROLS! I don't want to use R2 and L2 for shooting as I'm used to R1 and L1 and especially in multiplayer, it matters. Always when I'm trying to switch for lasso or repeater as quickly as possible, I accidentally select fist as it's between them. Have dies because of that for several times!
It's amazing game but these little limitations always eats the satisfaction. It would've taken like 5mins for someone to make customizable controls

Yeah, it's actually a double-whammy:
You have to hit a tricky combo quickly (hold left bumper, use the right stick to point at the right weapon class, then the left stick/D-pad to select the individual weapon), and the game doesn't pause in weapon selection! It wouldn't be so bad if the game paused so you didn't have button-panic when trying to change weapons.
I agree the menu system isn't great, a lot of necessary items are buried deep in the menus, or in unintuitive places (e.g. you have to hit Start to bring up the map, but Back to bring up the treasure map - you'd expect them to be in the same menu), but it's not a huge problem.

It's amazing! I finished the main story-line... what an ending! The multiplayer is fun too but I noticed it's very buggy. I hope it gets patched. I have the PS3 version btw and I couldn't be any happier with the visuals.

I love the random weird events that occur when playing the game. Once while I was off in the wilderness my horse hunting, a guy hopped off his horse right next to me and started to pee. WTF?
Another time I was exploring an area near Thieves Landing and came across a couple lying on the ground. The guy wasn't moving, and was lying in a pool of blood. The woman was drinking from a bottle and then collapsed too. I was expecting this to kick-off a new quest/challenge, but no, nothing happened. Weird....
