I know rumors are flying about Keynote 2, but this reads like it was written back in March of 2002.

I have Keynote 1.1, and couldn't be happier with it. I'm definitely making the jump to Keynote 2 whenever Apple releases it.

I love Keynote...
smooth & easy - Keynote sure hits fancy-pants Powerpoint out of the ballpark... ;)

Apple leapfrogged the 800lb gorilla of the market with the first version of Keynote, but Microsoft copied most of the good things in Keynote and put them in PowerPoint 2004, while keeping the virtues PowerPoint had over Keynote to start with.
So, currently, PowerPoint is back in the lead in terms of functionality. And, given it's market penetration, it's the hands-down winner at the moment.
I purchased Keynote when it came out, and I still use it (it still makes nicer-looking slides than PP), but, if Apple doesn't release an update soon, I'll have to relent, and buy Office 2004 just for PowerPoint. I do a lot of presentations and teaching, and PowerPoint is just more flexible and full-featured. I'm absolutely certain that Apple could release an update to Keynote that would blow PowerPoint out of the water (and I think they should...this would emphasize the popular belief that Apple's are sexier in a very public way) but I'm not sure they will. Apple is spread pretty thin these days...they have a lot of innovative products that are attracting a lot of attention, and they can't do everything at once.
As much as I hope to see (and will rush to buy) a Keynote update, I can't imagine that such software development is a high priority in Cupertino these days.
Cheers

Whatever happened to Persuasion? That was a great little app for the Mac OS 9 days - I used it for stuff that seemed logical to put into a presentation.
